#WATCH | Uttarakhand: Following the incident in which the Bailey bridge at Tamak Nala on the Joshimath-Malari motor road was washed away due to excessive water flow, an intensive search and rescue operation has been underway since yesterday to trace the person who went missing in the incident. Search operations were also carried out yesterday by teams from the SDRF and other agencies at the incident site and in surrounding areas.

The search operation is being jointly conducted by the SDRF Uttarakhand Police, district administration, Indian Army, ITBP, NDRF and BRO. Rescue teams are conducting an extensive search along the riverbank, around the water channel and at other possible locations where the missing person could be found.

As part of the ongoing operation, the SDRF Joshimath team, led by Inspector Karn Singh, conducted an intensive search operation at the incident site and nearby potential areas on August 11, 2026. The team systematically covered the riverbank and other probable locations by making effective use of available resources and technical expertise.

Despite the high water flow, difficult terrain and challenging conditions, the SDRF Uttarakhand Police and other agencies continued the search operation with close coordination and full readiness. However, no information regarding the missing person could be obtained during today’s search operation, and the search yielded no results.

The joint search and rescue operation to trace the missing person remains underway.

Uttarakhand: Secretary Disaster Management and Rehabilitation Vinod Kumar Suman said that the scientific study has been requested to use modern technologies, including satellite imagery, high-resolution remote sensing, drone surveys and GIS-based analysis, to undertake a comparative assessment of the condition of the area before and after the incident. The study will also examine the nature, intensity and duration of rainfall in the upper catchment area before and at the time of the incident, based on available satellite- and radar-based rainfall data, local rain-gauge stations and other meteorological information.

He said the concerned institutions have also been asked to scientifically examine evidence of possible landslides, rockfalls, debris flows, flash floods or other rapid geo-hydrological processes in the area. In addition, experts have been requested to study potential natural water sources, including glaciers, snowfields and permanent or semi-permanent water bodies, which could have contributed to a sudden increase in water flow.

In his letter, the Secretary has requested an assessment of the potential short-term and long-term risks to the affected stretch of the Jyotirmath-Malari motor road and other critical infrastructure in and around the area. Expert recommendations have also been sought on the need for early warning systems, real-time monitoring, rain gauges and water-level sensors, camera-based surveillance, and other modern monitoring mechanisms in the region.

Uttarakhand: Taking serious note of the incident of excessive water flow and a large volume of debris at Tamak Nala on the Joshimath–Malari motor road in Chamoli district on August 10, 2026, Secretary Disaster Management and Rehabilitation Vinod Kumar Suman has requested leading scientific and technical institutions in the country to conduct a detailed scientific study of the incident.

In this regard, letters have been sent to the Directors of the Wadia Institute of Himalayan Geology, National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC), Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (IIRS), Uttarakhand Space Application Centre (U-SAC), Geological Survey of India (GSI), India Meteorological Department (IMD), and National Institute of Hydrology (NIH). The institutions have been requested to study the upper catchment area of Tamak Nala and identify the actual source of the sudden increase in water flow.

They have also been asked to determine whether the excessive water flow was caused by normal rainfall, exceptionally heavy localised rainfall, a cloudburst, intense surface runoff, or any other hydrological factor. The study will also examine the source and origin area of the large volume of debris that entered the nala, along with the possible role of landslides, ground subsidence, slope failures, rockfalls, or other geomorphological activities in the upper reaches.

#WATCH | A Swift Rescue Force (SDRF) team, along with the district police, carried out a prompt rescue operation after a WagonR car, bearing registration number UK05TA5054, travelling from Khatima to Pithoragarh, lost control in the Banlekh area and fell into a gorge approximately 150 metres deep. Four people were reportedly travelling in the vehicle.

Upon receiving the information, the SDRF team from Champawat, along with the district police, immediately reached the spot. With the assistance of local residents, the team descended into the deep gorge and launched a rescue operation.

The SDRF personnel and district police safely evacuated all four occupants from the difficult terrain and shifted them to District Hospital, Champawat, through a 108 ambulance.

After examination, doctors declared one person dead, while two injured persons are undergoing treatment. One critically injured person was referred to Sushila Tiwari Hospital in Haldwani for further treatment.

#WATCH | Uttarakhand: DFO Civil Soyam Forest Division Pradeep Dhaulkhandi says, "Our staff is patrolling in the area. We have set up camera trap and we keep checking photos and videos. Local villagers and tourists coming to the sanctuary are being alerted to not venture out into such area alone, if they have to go out, they have to do so in a group. We are monitoring this...There is no threat as such because the wildlife sanctuary is a protected area and it is their abode..."

A video showing the tiger’s movement in Binsar has gone viral on social media. The Forest Department has also confirmed the presence of the tiger in the sanctuary.

Following reports of the tiger’s presence, the Forest Department has stepped up surveillance in the Binsar area. Camera traps have been installed to track the tiger’s movement and location, while a Quick Response Team (QRT) has also been activated to deal with any emergency situation.

#WATCH | Uttarakhand: Shri Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee (BKTC) Chairman Hemant Diwedi, speaking exclusively to ANI, says that the Char Dham Yatra is continuing smoothly despite the ongoing monsoon season.

With the beginning of the second phase of the pilgrimage, devotees remain enthusiastic about visiting Baba Kedar and offering prayers at Kedarnath Dham.

So far, a total of 30,62,228 devotees have offered prayers at Kedarnath and Badrinath Dham. Of these, 16,12,112 pilgrims have visited Kedarnath Dham, while 14,50,116 devotees have reached Badrinath Dham.

Despite the monsoon, the movement of pilgrims at both shrines continues steadily.

Uttarakhand CMO says, "Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has said that the safety of Char Dham pilgrims is the top priority of his government. In view of the active monsoon, the Disaster Management Department has been kept on a 24x7 alert mode. District Magistrates have been directed to remain vigilant so that relief and rescue operations can be launched immediately in case of any emergency. In the event of landslides or any other disaster, instructions have been issued to accommodate pilgrims at safe locations. Devotees are also being advised to undertake the pilgrimage only after taking the prevailing weather conditions into account.

Despite the challenges and disruptions caused by the monsoon in Uttarakhand, the Char Dham Yatra is heading towards setting a new record. Keeping the safety of pilgrims paramount, the state government is operating the pilgrimage with necessary restrictions and suspensions whenever required. However, the faith and enthusiasm of the pilgrims remain undiminished. In just 114 days, the number of pilgrims visiting the four shrines has crossed 47 lakh, which is more than 4.5 lakh higher than the corresponding period last year.

Following Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami’s directions, the pilgrimage is being conducted with utmost caution and continuous monitoring, with the safety of devotees being given the highest priority. In view of the active monsoon, all necessary arrangements have been put in place to ensure a safe and convenient pilgrimage. Chief Minister Dhami himself is monitoring the disaster management situation through the State Disaster Control Room. Arrangements for accommodation, food and other essential facilities have been ensured at all four shrines and major pilgrimage halts. Security personnel have also been deployed at landslide-prone locations to assist and protect pilgrims.

With effective disaster management and arrangements made by the state government, the Char Dham Yatra is moving towards setting a new milestone. The pilgrimage season commenced on April 19 this year with the opening of the portals of Gangotri and Yamunotri. As of Monday, August 10, a total of 47,02,703 pilgrims had visited the four Char Dham shrines during the first 114 days of the yatra, compared to 42,34,147 pilgrims during the same period in 2025. This marks an increase of 4,68,556 pilgrims over last year.

The cumulative number of pilgrims at the four shrines so far stands at 16,12,112 at Badrinath, 14,50,116 at Kedarnath, 7,37,629 at Gangotri and 6,62,347 at Yamunotri. In addition, 2,40,499 devotees have paid obeisance at Hemkund Sahib."

Despite deteriorating weather conditions and administrative alerts, 15,376 pilgrims visited the Char Dham shrines on Monday. Badrinath recorded the highest footfall, with 9,559 pilgrims offering prayers. This was followed by 4,170 pilgrims at Kedarnath, 1,204 at Gangotri and 443 at Yamunotri.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Tuesday met people from various parts of Uttarakhand at the Mukhyasevak Sadan at the Chief Minister’s residence and heard their grievances. During the public hearing, people from different districts apprised the Chief Minister of issues concerning them.

The Chief Minister listened to the grievances one by one and sought details of the concerned cases from officials, directing them to take necessary action. He said that direct communication between the public and the government through public representatives strengthens the democratic system. Public hearings provide people with an opportunity to directly bring their concerns before the government and also pave the way for resolving matters pending at various levels.

People raised several issues related to roads and connectivity, drinking water, electricity, education, healthcare, revenue, irrigation, employment, transfers and local development. The Chief Minister sought updates from officials on the status of these cases and directed them to take necessary action in accordance with eligibility criteria and applicable rules. He instructed officials to ensure that cases which can be resolved at the departmental level are not unnecessarily delayed, while matters requiring a decision at the government level should be submitted through the prescribed process.

The Chief Minister said that the state government’s priority is to ensure that the benefits of good governance reach every citizen. He said the government’s schemes and policies can only be truly meaningful when their benefits reach those in need in a timely manner. He directed officials to forward the cases to the concerned departments and ensure prompt action.

Chief Minister Dhami said the government is continuously working towards the overall development of the state while keeping public sentiments and expectations in mind. He also directed officials to ensure that issues concerning the common people are resolved with a humane approach while adhering to rules and regulations.

Immediately upon receiving the information, local police arrived at the scene and called the field unit. A thorough inspection of the crime scene was conducted, and scientific evidence was collected. After identifying the deceased, her family was informed. A case has been registered under relevant sections of the law, and multiple teams have been dispatched to search for the accused. #WATCH | Chamoli, Uttarakhand: The Chamoli district administration said that work to construct a temporary motorable road at Tamaknala is currently underway in the Niti Valley, a frontier area of the district. The development comes a day after a sudden flash flood in a stream near the Tamak Valley Bridge on the Niti-Malari road washed away the bridge.

The administration said that, besides its relief teams deployed on the ground, teams from the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) are also stationed at the ground zero and engaged in relief and restoration operations.

The concerned officials were also instructed to reach the ground zero and personally assess the actual situation and extent of damage so that there is no delay in relief, restoration and rehabilitation efforts. #WATCH | Dehradun: On the Bailey Bridge, Uttarakhand Disaster Management and Rehabilitation Secretary Vinod Kumar Suman says, "Immediately after receiving news of the incident, NDRF and SDRF teams were deployed to the site. A search is underway as there were reports of a person being swept away. Additionally, damage assessment is being conducted, and the Chief Minister has directed that there must be no shortage of food or essential supplies for the people in the affected area; this must be ensured. Medical facilities and any other necessary requirements are to be provided. Instructions have been issued to the District Magistrate, who is actively handling the situation.
