The Kenya Union of Journalists, represented by SG @Oduorerick, today joined the Kenya Media Sector Working Group in condemning attacks on press freedom in Kenya. We demand accountability, political commitment to a free press and safety of journalists as elections approach.
๐จ PRESS FREEDOM IS NOT NEGOTIABLE! ๐จ
@AMWIK joined partners under the Kenya Media Sector Working Group (KMSWG) to stand in solidarity with survivors of media attacks and demand accountability.
The safety of journalists is under threat from state hostility, unpunished police brutality to the rise of hired goons to attack media professionals.
We call upon the protection of media professionals and ensure zero-tolerance to violence as we approach 2027.

Protecting civic space requires more than awareness; it requires access to justice.
Last week, we joined @LawSocietyofKe in the Public Interest Litigation & Advocacy Workshop, to discuss how strategic litigation can uphold constitutional rights & promote accountability.

Day Two of the LSK Public Interest Litigation Workshop focused on Trauma-Informed Lawyering, equipping advocates with the knowledge and practical skills to represent clients affected by trauma with empathy, professionalism and a deeper understanding of the impact of traumatic experiences on legal proceedings.
The interactive sessions explored how trauma influences memory, behaviour and decision-making, while highlighting approaches that promote client trust, dignity and meaningful access to justice. Participants also reflected on the importance of lawyer well-being and resilience when handling emotionally demanding public interest litigation.
As the workshop continues, the Law Society of Kenya remains committed to strengthening the capacity of advocates to deliver people-centred legal services and advance justice through informed, compassionate and effective legal representation.

Who should be held accountable for defamation and misinformation on social media? Is it the tech giants like Google who host the content, or the individuals who publish it?
Digital rights lawyer @minayoangela says it should be a shared responsibility, explaining why itโs time to demand real accountability from both platforms and the government.
