#ASEFLectureSeries 🌍 How can Europe and Asia navigate an era of growing geopolitical and economic fragmentation?
ASEF had the pleasure of hosting the prestigious lecture delivered by His Excellency Wojciech Gerwel, Polish Special Envoy for the Indo-Pacific, on “European Resilience in an Age of Fragmentation: Growth, Security, and Civic Cohesion – and Their Relevance for Asia.”
3️⃣ key insights:
🔹Poland and Central and Eastern Europe’s historical experiences parallel those of Asian countries. Their successes offer lessons for Asian economies and societies navigating similar challenges of growth, stability and civic cohesion.
🔹The Russia-Ukraine conflict has prompted Europe to adjust to this new reality. It has also motivated increased engagement by Europe and expansion of its partnerships with Asia.
🔹Poland’s history has been driven by strong civic spaces and must be strengthened further to build resilience in an age of fragmentation
Reflecting on the shared lessons between Asia and Europe, HE GERWEL noted:
“Europe’s engagement with Asia is necessary for building a rules-based international order.”
🗣️ Welcomed by ASEF Executive Director Ambassador Beata STOCZYNSKA, HE GERWEL shared critical insights from Poland, Central and Eastern Europe on navigating economic growth, regional security and civic cohesion in an increasingly fragmented world.
His reflections highlighted the strong relevance of these interconnected challenges to Asia’s own evolving strategic landscape, underscoring the importance of dialogue and cooperation across regions.
