Maternal respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) prefusion F (RSVpreF) vaccination during pregnancy is associated with more than 65% protection against RSV-associated acute respiratory illness (ARI) hospitalization in infants 90 days or younger. The United States Pharmacopeia General Chapter 797 defines the minimum standards for sterile compounding that are critical for patient safety. This educational activity will address ongoing challenges where pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and medication safety officers report questions including strategies to bring back or increase sterile compounding in healthcare facilities and associated considerations including resources, risk assessment, and financial analysis.

Additionally, this activity will discuss special considerations for adult versus pediatric compounded sterile products (CSPs) including compatibility and stability considerations, and appropriate opportunities to use standardized concentrations. This activity will use case-based questions to compare scenarios with adult patients and pediatric populations to demonstrate the differences and nuances in these patient populations with CSPs.
