Excited! While you guys were trading memes on the hood chain I finally scooped rare Gazer #356 on @gondixyz
Have had my eyes on @Gazers1000 and @MattKaneArtist for a LONG time.
Gazers is living artwork that sync closely with the real phases of the moon. Truly amazing.
⚡️Russia is teaching its citizens the same lesson sanctions taught the Kremlin:
Wealth held on someone else’s ledger is conditional.
Moscow learned that reserves can exist legally and still become unusable when another sovereign controls the rails.
Russians buying cold wallets are learning the same principle at the individual level. A bank account, exchange balance, or custodial asset survives through institutional permission. A private key moves the final veto closer to the holder.
That creates a structural contradiction Russia cannot escape. The state wants crypto because it weakens Washington’s ability to control Russian money. At home, Russia still wants the ability to control Russian citizens’ money. Self-custody breaks that asymmetry because Bitcoin does not know which government deserves the veto.
That is what matters.
Russia is legitimizing an escape technology whose logic keeps propagating downward. The Kremlin says monetary sovereignty means reducing dependence on America. The citizen eventually asks why monetary sovereignty should stop at the Kremlin.
Once that question spreads, the state’s cheapest form of financial control gets weaker. Freezing a bank account is administrative. Freezing correctly self-custodied Bitcoin requires finding the person, the keys, or the conversion chokepoint. Control becomes more expensive.
So the real signal behind the cold-wallet surge is this:
Sanctions taught Russia that custody is power.
Russia is now teaching its population the same thing.
And once citizens understand that sovereignty begins where another party’s veto ends, the concept no longer belongs exclusively to the state.
@metabloxx@nullinger@token_works I was looking through their transactions didn't fully understand what they were doing (adding/removing liquidity) and then buying and listing the punks. Very nicely done indeed.
