As Africa's first-ever host of the Our Ocean Conference, Kenya has set a historic milestone for the continent's blue economy agenda. I emphasized that while Africa has developed strong policy frameworks for sustainable ocean governance, our greatest challenge now is implementation.
Together, we must accelerate investments in sustainable fisheries, aquaculture, maritime infrastructure, marine conservation, innovation, and ocean science, while ensuring that women and youth are at the forefront of Africa's blue economy transformation.

On the sidelines of the "Our Oceans Conference" #OOC11 in Mombasa Kenya, I had the distinguished honour to deliver opening remarks of the 5th African SIDS Platform Meeting. The meeting brought together representatives of African Small Island Developing States (SIDS), development partners, experts, and stakeholders to advance a shared vision for sustainable ocean governance and resilient blue economies.
In my remarks, I reaffirmed the African Union Commission’s commitment to supporting Member States in promoting sustainable fisheries and aquaculture, conserving marine and aquatic biodiversity, strengthening climate adaptation and resilience, and unlocking the immense potential of the blue economy for inclusive growth, food security and job creation.
I also underscored the importance of developing Common African SIDS Position, enhancing regional cooperation, and leveraging strategic initiatives such as the Great Blue Wall and Agenda 2063 to safeguard the livelihoods, heritage, and future of island and coastal communities. Together, we must transform our collective commitments into concrete actions that ensure a healthy, productive, and sustainable ocean for present and future generations.

This afternoon I made my closing remarks for the Mission to support Malawi in the implementation of the #CAADPKampalaDeclaration and 100Days Rolling Plan. We have made the plans, so what are we going to do now? The message today is "Let us make sure that we do our part." The @_AfricanUnion will do its part. Let Malawi do her part. Let us have a good monitoring evaluation mechanism with clear timelines for implementation of the plans we made over the past 3days. I further pledged 2-3 soil testing kits for each of the 28 Districts of Malawi to assist the farmers in verifying their soil health needs and apply the correct fertilizer for greater productivity.
The meeting was graced by the Minister for Agriculture as well as the Minister for Trade, Senior Government Officials, @SADC_News representative, Partners resident in Malawi, the private sector, academia, and civil society organization in the agriculture space.
