Many of the dogs at House of Aspin have been rescued from the dog meat trade or dog fighting in the Philippines.

However, we remain concerned that a small fine may not be sufficient to deter other traders. Stronger penalties are needed to reflect the seriousness of these offences and, ultimately, end the dog meat trade.

GUILTY! A dog meat trader has been fined 10,000 pesos (£120).

A 38-year-old man, who was arrested in July 2025 following a raid conducted by AWIP and the Philippines National Police (PNP), has been convicted under the Animal Welfare Act of 1998.

We are working closely with national police forces to crack down on the sale of dog meat to end this cruel trade. The PNP have made significant efforts to ensure that dog meat traders are investigated and arrested. We welcome the guilty plea and conviction in this case.

On Thursday (14 May 2026), alongside the Philippine National Police, we rescued a dog named Faith from a roadside slaughterhouse in the Philippines. 💚

One suspect arrested, criminal proceedings underway, and Faith is receiving vet care.

AWIP worked alongside Nottinghamshire Police and Bassetlaw District Council as part of an ongoing investigation into suspected illegal puppy sales across Nottinghamshire. 53 dogs were removed from the address due to welfare concerns. Further enquiries remaining ongoing.

Our investigators found Luna inside a dogfighting ring in the Philippines where dogs are forced to fight while people gamble on the violence.

Luna was rescued from the ring and removed from the people responsible.
