✝️ Repent and believe in the gospel (Mark 1:15) ✝️
When I hear about someone who “grew up Christian” but then left the faith, I only have to look at their social media to see why: they wanted to sin. That’s all there is to it.
Many people are exposed to the faith in their youth, but their hearts aren’t fertile ground (Matt. 13).
If you do not love the Bible, you certainly do not love the God who gave it to us, and if you do love God, [no] other book in all the world will be comparable, in your mind, to God’s own Book… When God speaks, it is the delight of our ears to hear what He says.
—Charles Spurgeon
Romans 6:1-2
… Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? Certainly not! How shall we who died to sin live any longer in it?
Freedom from sin is not freedom to sin. As Paul tells us in Romans 6:18, “And having been set free from sin, you became slaves of righteousness.”
If you are saved, you will have good works, but good works cannot save you. A heart of stone does good works to honor creation, whereas a heart of flesh does good works to honor the Creator.
A wicked heart does not care for God.
A regenerate heart seeks to glorify God.
At the heart of sin is pride.
You’ve chosen to live as you see fit rather than honor God.
You’ve followed your heart rather than God’s Word.
You’ve sided with sin rather than Christ.
You’ve made yourself your own god.
As Thomas Watson said, “a proud man is a self-worshipper.”
A man born again, or regenerate, does not make the world’s opinion his rule of right and wrong. He does not mind going against the stream of the world’s way, notions and customs.
—J.C. Ryle
John 11:35
Jesus wept.
Unlike Mary’s “weeping” (κλαίοντας) in v. 33, which was loud wailing and cries of lament, this weeping is ἐδάκρυσεν: quiet grief. Being a man doesn’t mean we won’t weep at times (grief, pain, joy, etc.); we just won’t make a practice of κλαίοντας.
Those who have followed Christ longer can more easily see the effects of sin in our lives than new Christians can. As Spurgeon said, “The more light we get, the more we discover our own darkness… and [it’s easier to see the] sin which we winked at in the days of our ignorance.”
You will be known as a fool for your faith (1 Cor. 1:18).
I can only imagine what they thought of Noah, warning about the destruction that never came… until it did.
Let us be mocked, hated, and known as fools to the world, but most of all, let us finish the race (2 Tim. 4:7).
You and I must never look at our past lives; we must never look at any sin in our past life in any way except that which leads us to praise God and to magnify His grace in Christ Jesus.
—Martyn Lloyd-Jones
1 Corinthians 11:1
Be imitators of me, just as I also am of Christ.
As John Calvin wrote, “We are to follow men, provided they take Christ as their grand model, that the examples of the saints may not tend to lead us away from Christ, but rather to direct us to Him.”
Any “love” that dishonors God’s design is not love. True love honors the One who loved us first (1 John 4:19).
Love that leads you away from Christ is not love; it’s deceit.
Beware of following your wicked heart (Jer. 17:9).
May you be guided by His Word (Ps. 119:105).
Them: “Speaking out against homosexuality is something new in the church.”
Augustine: “Shameful acts which are contrary to nature, such as the acts of the Sodomites, are everywhere and always to be detested and punished… [God] has not made men to use one another in this way.”
@ekkiet Someone may know the text (memorize it and understand it academically), yet never have it inscribed on the heart. The head may be full while the heart remains empty. Someone may call himself a Christian, but as J.C. Ryle said, “All are not Christians who are called Christians.”
The more light we get, the more we discover our own darkness… and [it’s easier to see the] sin which we winked at in the days of our ignorance.
—Charles Spurgeon
2 Timothy 3:16
All Scripture is inspired by God…
As a friend said, “When you write a story on paper, is it the pen writing the story, or is it you? Same thing with the Bible. It’s God who wrote the Bible; [Scripture is known as ‘His Word’] and men are only instruments of God.”
All believers are called to evangelize and share the Good News, but not all are called to shepherd God’s flock.
To usurp a position appointed by God isn’t merely a secondary or tertiary issue; it is rebellion against God.
Scripture is clear: women cannot be pastors.
This is your reminder to pick up the Bible and spend time with the Lord your God.
You can read the whole Bible in one year if you spend only 12 minutes a day.
Nourish your faith (1 Peter 2:2).
There are two types of sin: willful sins (Heb. 10:26) and those committed without a heart set on committing them (Lev. 5:17).
In either case, our response should be the same: rather than hiding our sins, we should confess them (Ps. 32:5). Ignorance is not bliss (Lev. 5:18-19).
Seek not to grow in knowledge chiefly for the sake of applause, and to enable you to dispute with others; but seek it for the benefit of your souls, and in order to practice. If applause be your end, you will… be led into error to your own perdition.
—Jonathan Edwards
