I’ve just watched the bodycam footage showing the final moments of Henry Novak’s life, and honestly, it is deeply upsetting and worrying.

In those last few minutes, there appear to have been multiple failures. Henry repeatedly saying, “I can’t breathe” and “I’ve been stabbed” should have been treated with urgency and compassion. Instead, he was handcuffed, and at one point an officer is heard saying, “You haven’t been stabbed, mate.”

Meanwhile, the man accused of attacking him was standing there talking about a swollen eyelid and having his turban removed, while Henry’s condition appears to have been dismissed.

Watching it unfold is difficult. The lack of urgency, the lack of care, and the decisions made in those crucial moments raise serious questions that deserve answers.

A man lost his life. His family deserve the truth.

There must be a full, transparent, independent, and thorough investigation into exactly what happened, why it happened, and whether opportunities to save Henry Novak’s life were missed.

Accountability matters. So does justice. 😥😥
