Today New York made history, becoming the first state to require companies disclose when they use AI-generated actors in advertisements.
New York wouldn’t be New York without its film and TV industry. Responsible AI policies like this protect the actors who keep it running.
Gov. Kathy Hochul signed two SAG-AFTRA–backed bills regulating the use of “synthetic” AI performers in New York.
One bill requires ads to disclose when an AI performer is used, and the other bans creating deepfakes of deceased performers without their estate’s consent.

Historic win! Two key performer protection bills are now laws in NY State, securing post-mortem digital replica rights & disclosure of synthetic performers in ads. Thank you @GovKathyHochul for signing & safeguarding #SagAftraMembers & NYers.

#SagAftra strongly urges @GovKathyHochul to sign @SenSeanRyan’s legislation (S.3100A/A.1278B), as written, to prohibit employers in NY from restricting their workers’ future employment options through the use of noncompete agreements. There should be NO income threshold added.
Yesterday NYED Rebecca Damon joined @SenSeanRyan in urging @GovKathyHochul to sign his legislation which prohibits employers in NY from the use of noncompete agreements. Noncompetes have no place in NY and harm employees at every level.
Thank you @POTUS for signing a groundbreaking Executive Order today on AI. For strong, safe & responsible AI development & use, it is imperative that workers & unions remain at the forefront of policy development. We look forward to working together for a human centered approach.
