The PM chose his words carefully for a reason. If you didn’t know that there was more to the @GordieHoweBrg cap structure than just “debt,” it would have sounded like Canada came out just fine. But there’s far more at play than just tolls and debt. The availability payment, a return on whatever equity was put up by the P3 partners, duty free lease revenue, etc.
Obviously, and most importantly, @realDonaldTrump wouldn’t have agreed to a bridge revenue deal where the USA came out no further ahead than a month ago. That’s how we knew Ottawa was dissembling.
Carney was asked about the bridge today, and it seems clear his earlier description of the deal was wrong. Debt servicing/repayment is not part of the bridge's expenses. It's instead taken from the net revenue Canada will now split with the US for 15 years https://t.co/raNzeAuNA5
Gary sees no problem that the establishment and experts knowingly misled people during covid. The only way we know this is because legislators and the press in other countries bothered to investigate. But the Canadian establishment avoids seeking the truth because it holds such reverence for the authorities and experts. They would never do wrong.
- Emails exchanged between heads of health authorities referenced the possibility of a lab leak while they called those theories conspiracies in public.
- CDC had data showing breakthrough cases in vaccinated populations but everyone was told vaccines were mandatory to stop the spread
Canada cannot negotiate from strength while investment, jobs and confidence keep leaving the country.

So taxpayers
foot the bill for a $6 billion bridge on the understanding tolls will pay it back...
and then Prime Minister @MarkJCarney makes a different deal
and WE DON’T GET TO KNOW what it is?
"Reporter/anchor" running defence for PM Carney again. And adding a dig at Harper.
Become a columnist, write a substack, host a podcast or apply to the Senate or PMO.
The blurred line between reporting and editorializing erodes public trust in journalism.
@Fromehtozed How so? Would you have left the bridge closed? At least it’s opening, Harper understood we needed the new bridge but it also left us vulnerable to a shakedown given we were assuming all the risks.
@Ben_oharabyrne I said that where?
You wrote Harper's deal left us vulnerable.
Reporters are entitled to their opinions...But if you care about the public perception of the profession, take a page out of the judiciary's norms and practices.
@Ki_flows@Ben_oharabyrne So ask for the details. Which we have. Why play defence for the government without the details and blame Harper at the same time?
If independent and unbiased journalism and reporting is as important to a democracy as an independent judiciary, then people don't need to know how reporters vote...much like they don't know how judges vote.
If reporters have opinions they can write a column, host a show or podcast. But don't claim the title of reporter while feeling the need to tell the world your opinions.
The bridge is a flashpoint because our government has actively undercut our relationship with the US admin. Had we rapidly advanced Fortress North America, approved pipelines, amassed strategic mineral reserves - we may not be here rationalizing our weakened state. #cdnpoli
