Stage 2 Fire Restrictions
Effective immediately, Sheriff Claps has ordered Stage 2 fire restrictions for unincorporated Adams County.
This is due to a prolonged pattern of extreme heat, winds of 10 mph-20mph and forecasted 5% or less humidity. These conditions are expected to continue into next week.
During Stage 2 fire restrictions:
•Open burning is prohibited
•Burn permits are suspended, and previously authorized burning is not allowed.
•All fireworks are illegal in unincorporated Adams County, with the exception of permitted professional fireworks displays. This includes personal use of fireworks.
The following acts are also prohibited:
•Building, maintaining, attending, or using a fire, campfire, coal or wood-burning stove, any type of charcoal-fueled broiler or open fire of any type.
•Smoking, except within an enclosed vehicle or building.
•Using explosive material: (i.e.: fireworks, blasting caps or any incendiary device which may result in the ignition of flammable material.
•Welding, or operating an acetylene or other similar torch with open flame.
•Operating or using any internal combustion engine without a spark-arresting device properly installed, maintained and in effective working order meeting either:
•Operating a chainsaw without a chemical pressurized fire extinguisher of not less than 8 ounces capacity by weight, and one size 0 or larger round pointed shovel with an overall length of at least 36 inches. The extinguisher shall be with the chainsaw operator. The shovel may be kept with the fueling supplies, but readily available.
These fire restrictions will be reviewed daily and could change depending on the weather conditions.
🔥 STAGE 1 FIRE RESTRICTIONS ARE NOW IN EFFECT FOR ADAMS COUNTY 🔥
Due to historic drought conditions, outdoor burning is strictly limited. Here's what you need to know:
✅ PERMITTED:
• Fires in liquid or gas stoves
• Fireplaces inside buildings
• Charcoal and propane grills at private residences
• Fires within designated fire pits at developed campgrounds
🚬 SMOKERS:
• Smoke only inside a vehicle or building, or in designated smoking areas
• Dispose of cigarette butts properly — never on the ground
⚙️ EQUIPMENT OPERATORS:
• Chainsaws, ATVs, and motorcycles must have proper spark arrestors installed
🧯 FOR ALL OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES:
Always keep a fire extinguisher and shovel within reach.
Stage 1 fire restrictions have no impact on firework ordinances. Please look at our previous post for a more detailed explanation of fireworks restrictions as we get closer to July 4th.
We are all in this together. Please do your part to protect our community and our land.
