Sport has the power to change the lives of refugees.
And to promote a message of inclusion and compliance with international law.
It’s a message the world needs to hear, with so many pulling back from important benchmarks and conventions.
Opposing conflict, promoting climate action and upholding international law are also important because they ensure that less people are forcibly displaced.
Like the Afghan Women’s National Team @AfghanWnt, featured with Filippo Grandi in the @Olympics Opening ceremony.
Like all refugees, they’re an inspiration.
Congrats to @FilippoGrandi for important recognition and visibility for all refugees around the world.

Protecting people who flee danger, or protecting ourselves against people fleeing danger?
International human rights and refugee law (and common sense too) is clear. There really is only one right answer.

On #WorldRefugeeDay, UN rights experts call on States to resist the politics of fear and exclusion and work together to protect the critical, fundamental rights of people to seek and enjoy asylum.

On #WorldRefugeeDay, let's reaffirm the world’s collective responsibility in assisting & welcoming refugees, in upholding their human rights - including the right to seek asylum - and ultimately, in resolving conflicts so that those forced from their communities can return home.
Dorna came here as a refugee from Iran. She’s made Australia her home, and she's contributing to our community.
Today, she told me she’s landed her dream job.
Dorna’s earning a Certificate II in Baking while working here at The Bread and Butter Project.
