🚨Today I was in Westminster to give evidence to the Northern Ireland Affairs Committee as part of its inquiry into the impact of taxation on hospitality and tourism.
It was an important opportunity to bring the experience of Ireland’s hospitality sector directly to the Committee and explain the difference the 9% VAT rate is making for businesses.
Hospitality businesses north and south of the border are dealing with many of the same pressures and there is a lot we can learn from each other’s experience.
Thank you to the Committee Chair and members of the Committee for the invitation and for the opportunity to share our experience and make the case for hospitality businesses.

So happy for everyone from @MayoGAA… sport can be cruel at times and the people from Mayo went through their fair share of it. Enjoy the celebrations. #mayoforsam
For over fifty years, we've stood behind restaurants, cafés and gastropubs across the country, and that hasn't changed. Today we've refreshed how we look, not what we stand for.
Still here representing every food operator in Ireland.
Same voice. New face.

It was great to visit Days Bazaar in Mullingar yesterday with Minister @peterburkefg ahead of the reinstatement of the 9% VAT rate on July 1st.
The return of the 9% VAT rate is a hugely important measure that supports the 99.6% of hospitality businesses that are SMEs. After several extremely challenging years for our sector, we thank the Government for recognising the significant cost pressures facing food-led hospitality businesses and for delivering on its commitment to restore the 9% VAT rate.
This measure will help protect jobs, support businesses and strengthen communities across the island of Ireland.
Last Monday Tigh Chadhain, Coynes Gastropub won the Best Gastro Pub in all of Ireland category at the prestigious Restaurant Association of Ireland Awards held at the Clayton Hotel on Burlington road, Dublin.

A strong start to the 92nd HOTREC General Assembly in Cork today.
In partnership with the Irish Hotels Federation, the Restaurants Association of Ireland is proud to welcome hospitality leaders from over 30 European countries.
@PresidentRAI Seán Collender and CEO of the Restaurants Association of Ireland and @HOTREC_EUROPE Treasurer @adriancummins addressed delegates as 47 associations from across Europe come together at a pivotal moment for the sector.
With 99.6% of businesses operating as SMEs in Ireland, the industry continues to face significant pressure from rising energy costs due to wider global uncertainty.
Bringing European colleagues together in Cork comes at an important time, as businesses across the continent navigate increasing input costs and challenges, ahead of Ireland’s EU Presidency this July #HotrecGACork

Rory is an exceptional golfer and a fantastic ambassador for Ireland globally.
However, we would respectfully disagree with his comments regarding Irish food.
Irish food is among the very best in the world, built on exceptional local produce, world-class chefs and a strong farm-to-fork tradition.
As Gordon Ramsay has said, Ireland is “the sleeping beauty of European cuisine” and that reputation is now being realised every day across our restaurant sector.
When Rory returns to Ireland for the Irish Open in Doonbeg later this year, we would strongly encourage him to experience some of the very best Irish produce on offer and we would be more than happy to show him a few spots ourselves.
Ireland’s food offering is a central part of our tourism and cultural identity. We look forward to working with Government on a new food tourism strategy that fully showcases our strengths, from farm to fork, and supports the continued growth of our world-class hospitality sector.
I will be sending Rory an invitation to launch this new strategy when it is completed.
We wish Rory and Shane Lowry the very best in Augusta this weekend.
Is @deloitteireland saying only 24 Hospitality businesses closed in Ireland for the first 2 months of 2026
Interesting to hear from customers and fellow business owners with regards to the real facts across the state regarding closures https://t.co/U6CN2E3LEU
At a time of global turmoil and great challenge, we look for signs of hope in the everyday.
To Irish people and friends of Ireland everywhere, we wish you a very happy St Patrick’s Day!

🚨There goes Ireland’s gig economy
Last count, 11 sectors targeted by revenue and “removed “ from the Gig Economy
Ireland 🇮🇪 most costliest country to run a business in Europe 🇪🇺
Revenue could collect nearly €27m in taxes via gig economy ruling

Irish people should have the option of calling an Uber or a Bolt
Lessons of two decades ago remain true: bold reform, focused on enhancing competition, can deliver huge benefits to consumers

Watch @adriancummins, speaking on RTÉ News on what the Michelin Guide recognition means for our sector.
This is a powerful endorsement of the high standards and depth of quality across Irish hospitality, recognising not just chefs but entire restaurant teams and the full dining experience.
Crucially, it strengthens Ireland’s position as a leading food destination and builds real momentum behind the new national culinary tourism strategy due later this year. Culinary tourism is central to attracting visitors, showcasing Irish produce and ensuring our restaurant sector can grow and thrive.
Congratulations to @ForestAveDub and The Pullman who earned their first Michelin Stars.
