Actually, I think this visit is good for the outcome of the elections as I think that the worst endorsement you can get for a campaign is from Marco Rubio.

A few things about this unprecedented disgrace. One, the United States needs nothing from Hungary that would depend on the outcome of this election, but clearly Donald Trump does. Two, weakening Europe is a hobby for MAGA, but an existential necessity for Putin. 1/2

The U.S.’ friends of choice in Europe speaks by itself : pro-Russian anti democracy autocrats who want the EU to implode. With elections coming to Hungary very soon, they may lose one of those friends and be left with almost no true allies.

When Marco Rubio opens his Europe trip with Slovakia and then goes to Budapest to meet Viktor Orbán, the United States is not “building peace.” It is backing Russia’s strategy of dividing Europe and weakening support for Ukraine.

Russia is not only fighting on the front line. Russia is attacking US allies with hybrid warfare: disinformation, cyberattacks, sabotage, and economic pressure. NATO describes these tactics plainly.

So this matters. When Washington elevates Orbán and treats Robert Fico as a serious channel while he pushes narratives that blame Ukraine, the US strengthens the pro Kremlin bloc inside European Union. That is active support for the attacking side.

No ally can ignore that. This is a historic failure of loyalty. Europe is watching the US help the actor that threatens to pull the continent into a wider war, the kind Europe has not faced since the Second World War. Europe will respond the only rational way: assume America is not a friend, and build a future without it.
