Ed Miliband may be indulging in performative student politics. But we don’t import 25% of our pharma from Israel. Last year Israeli records show only $25m pharma exports to UK. And we import billions-worth of pharmaceuticals. But we do export several hundred millions worth TO Israel.

The British Foreign Secretary, Ed Miliband is being badly advised over Israel and the Middle East, and the British people could pay a very high price. Israel’s economy is booming. Its GDP is up. Overseas investment is massive. Unemployment is rock bottom. The currency is very strong and stable.

But Andy Burnham is set to ban all trade on goods in Judea and Samaria on Tuesday, declaring that Britain will not stand back and accept the “destruction of the two-state solution”.

Israel gives huge intelligence to Britain preventing terror attacks. Israel sells arms to Britain. 25% of pharmaceuticals and medicine in Britain comes from Israel.

Despite the Israeli election next month, Israel will respond at the right time and Britain with its failing economy will eventually suffer.

It’s an another disastrous decision from the British Labour government.

AfD: 43.8% (+23.0)
CDU: 17.2% (-19.9)
SPD: 9.3% (+0.9)
GRÜNE (Greens): 8.9% (+3.0)
LINKE (LEFT): 8.6% (-2.4)
BSW: 5.3% (new).
None of the other 8 parties contesting reached the 5% threshold so they get no seats in the Magdeburg parliament.
You need 42 seats for a majority. AfD three short. So is a CDU-SPD-Green-Left coalition (if such a thing possible). So BSW emerge as kingmakers.

It’s 8% over two years. Inadequate given how much defence spending was rundown under the Tories. Even they realised the error of their ways and increased it by 7% in final year. No need to raise taxes — plenty billions to switch from net zero and welfare + cancel Chagos. But if tax rises really were necessary then yeas, of course.

With half the electoral districts counted AfD on almost 50%. But that reflects rural bias of early declarations. AfD will certainly emerge comfortably as biggest party. Nobody yet sure if with overall majority. Going to be v close. They might just squeeze it.

Jonathan Reynolds claims defence spending has already increased substantially under Labour. He repeated it in all his interviews on the Sunday morning round. Nobody called him out. Jon Sopel even agreed with him saying ‘I know’. Here are the facts about total defence spending in constant 2025/26 pounds:
2024/25: £62.3 billion, a figure inherited from the Tories.
2025/26: £62.0 billion — so a small real-terms fall in Labour’s first full year.
2026/27: planned and after Defence Investment Plan top up:£67.0 billion.
So a rise of under £5 billion from 24/25 despite growing international tensions/threats. And even that includes several Treasury fiddles. It’s peanuts compared with the threats/challenges.
Labour will double net zero subsidies to £40 billion between now and 2030. Giving away the Chagos Islands will cost many billions more. Both seem more of a priority than defence.
