Potassium governs long distance transport systems in plants, and having either an excess or limited supply of potassium reduces the flow of various compounds throughout the plant. Excess potassium can be just as yield-limiting as low potassium levels.

Nitrate (NO3-) N is often stored in tissues for use when sources of N are limited. It is a component in the hormone signaling system. This is why nitrate is the preferred form early in the growing season.

This is an important, yet rarely discussed aspect of plant nutrition. Root size, or more specifically root surface area, is a very significant variable with respect to the plant’s ability to acquire nutrients. Maximizing root size is part of maximizing production efficiency.
Even though P use from germination-V3 is relatively small in volume, it is critical to maximizing kernel count. This is a time when the root system is very small and microbial activity is low. This is why an in-furrow application of a plant-available form of P makes sense.
We challenge you to think beyond the 4Rs & consider the best approach for crop health. Rather than compromising the true needs of soil & plant health for convenience, use a strategy for a better environment. The Maximum Farming System addresses 5Rs.

Price/unit & convenience, while valuable considerations, may not be capable of delivering optimum profits. Nitrogen is used by the plant in ammonia, nitrate, or urea forms, all 3 valuable. Plants use the forms at different times in development cycles.

The 3 phosphorus pools in soil environments are solution, labile, & fixed. The solution pool is the source for plant uptake, only a small fraction of the phosphorus in soils, and replenished nearly 500X when soil biology is functioning at optimum.

Seems like a good time to look for ways to become more efficient with fertilizer. DM us to discuss ways we can help.

We overlay sampling data with yield maps & our mgt zones. We find there are key nutrients that aren't the yield drivers we thought they were. Maximum Farming Reports show where the limiting factors are, allow farmers to spend money where it's needed.

The educational approach taken by his local representative is what attracted Rick Johnson, Newell, Iowa, originally. One aspect of the Maximum Farming System is its focus on soils & how healthy soils impact a crop throughout the growing season.
