One Piece: Elbaph Episode 20 Review/Thread

Suzuki has come back to release his episode and surprisingly a really good episode, the schedule for this arc has been outstanding so lets get into this!

Episode Direction/Storyboards ( Yusuke Suzuki ) - Coming around is him doing a solo SB/ED role for this episode and he has already creating some quirks and similarities to people like Wataru & Koyama. The first half using the gimmick aspect ratio style but was done well to showcase how Saul is going through a bit of a pickle and is showing who we all hate the most on screen. 1st half was definitely a great step towards a direction/storyboard based episode that will give you some interesting ideas. 2nd half isn't as good but it still gives you something new to experience and also has some good storyboarding ideas that even Wataru would use in times like these. The Elbaph schedule has been nothing but great and this is a very clear example of having directors cook for a bit longer before the episode is out.

Animation Direction ( Masahiro, Inoue & More ) - We are here with a few new debuts into the mix, Training AD Debut Kashiwaguma, Assistant AD's Arinko & Shiitake. Giving them this role is a huge accomplishment considering how they are still young and new into that role. Shimanuki & Eisaku has done a great job keeping the drawing and quality of the linework sparse and favourable while also giving rob and arinko a chance to shine with their work. Soty's training AD part is as good as it usually is and Hugo's segment in the episode is fantastic stuff with a twist of background animation with god-tier rotation shots that even he can do with no problems at all. Despite so many AD's everything came together nicely and didn't feel off a slight bit.

Overall - 8.5/10 / It would of been a bit lower but the ideas presented gave me a bit of shock and I will give Suzuki his praise that he is a damn fine episode director. He managed to allocate the best parts of the post-processing team for his own ideas and even kept it consistent while being more conservative in the 2nd half it still had stipulations of great boards for the episode and even nightberry came back to do a long sequence at the very beginning of this episode.
