A lot of people using #Codex seem to be running into this never-ending compaction issue.

There are a couple of workarounds that you can try for this issue.

1. Try a lower model, like 5.3 Spark.

It has less comprehensive compaction and so is more likely to succeed.
This worked sometimes for me, but not always.

2. Reduce your context window below 250k tokens.

This is the one that worked long-term for me personally.
Again, the reason is because there is less to compact.

3. Trim your conversations.

Part of the reason you have this issue is because you have a very long conversations.

This is problematic anyway because conversations have issues when they are longer that 16k lines.

I have built a safe process for trimming conversations for myself.
I think I'll turn it into a skill and share it soon.
