When youth are seen, heard and included in decision-making, societies grow stronger. I see the future is in good hands with the young leaders driving change at the Aawaz II Youth Summit! The UK remains committed to supporting youth leadership in Pakistan’s future.
We heard from our Aawaz community leaders how technology exacerbates gender-based violence. There is no excuse for digital abuse, and that’s why our report on tackling this violence calls for a survivor centred, tech informed and coordinated response.
When communities, government, and civil society walk together, they shape the future. The Aawaz II National Learning Event was a powerful display of the collective commitment to child protection, ending GBV, inclusion, and tackling online harm.
Child marriage is now prohibited in ICT. Congrats to the Government of Pakistan in taking this step to liberate countless young people from a practice that takes away childhood, education, and fundamental rights. Congrats also to Aawaz II partners who supported all the way.
Survivors of GBV, child marriage and abuse have a right to report, get counselling, medical and legal help, under one roof. The UK helped Pakistan open anti-rape crisis cells in Islamabad, Peshawar and Bahawalpur, and Punjab Women Protection Centres in Lahore and Rawalpindi.
UNFPA Pakistan with the support of Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office launched Anti-Rape Crisis Cell at Bahawal Victoria Hospital, Bahawalpur by Dr. Luay Shabaneh UNFPA's Country Representative and the Minister for Health Punjab Khawaja Salman Rafique.
One of the best afternoons I’ve had with these trailblazing ladies from the Aawaz II Programme! Each has overcome adversity and become a force for change in their communities. Happy to announce that we are now extending Aawaz II to Sindh!

Great to meet with @BishopAzadM and Church leaders yesterday in Lahore to discuss the challenges facing the Christian community, and today in Sargodha with the UK’s #AawazII team, who are working to ensure the protection of religious minorities. @ukinpakistan@CStrandhoj_FCDO
Inspired by the Punjab Women Protection Centre, providing life-saving shelter, support with police and legal aid to vulnerable women who need it most through the UK’s Aawaz programme. Deeply moved by the stories of survivors here today.
UK HC @JaneMarriottUK & Dr @ShabanehLuay visited Women Protection Centre, Rawalpindi and received briefing by the team of @social_punjab & PWPA teams on services for women survivors of violence. Facilities at the centre are recently upgraded by @ukinpakistan, UNFPA & @act_intlpk
The first anti-rape crisis cell in PIMS Islamabad means improved forensics and faster help for survivors of violence. Truly a step in the right direction for preventing gender-based violence!
An Anti-rape Crisis Centre is established at PIMS hospital in Islamabad by @ministry_law with support from UNFPA and @ukinpakistan.
At the inauguration, UNFPA Rep @ShabanehLuay said ‘Rape is an ugly crime which causes lifelong pain and psychological trauma. By all means, rape is a crisis which requires a collective response.’
Confidential and quick medico-legal services are crucial for survivors of rape.
An Anti-Rape Crisis Centre with specialized medical and legal services under one roof at PIMS Hospital is inaugurated today by @JaneMarriottUK . The Centre is established by @ministry_law & @nhsrcofficial with support from @ukinpakistan, UNFPA & @las_pakistan
