I have been keeping a secret that I can FINALLY share with you all!!!!!
I'm partnering with @beehiiv to lead their Community Product.
It's LIVE now. Released today at the Summer Release Event which was...truly something (link in comments if you want to watch).
I love 0-1 work.
AND I love it even more when it means I'm on a team enabling more connection in the world.
It is now possible for hundreds (thousands?) of diligent writers, podcasters, business owners, growth teams, and publishers to launch a community with a tool they already use.
We have tried *very hard* to make getting started easy, manage, engage with, and grow your community.
If you're thinking...thanks for the tool, but where do I even start...
The beehiiv team and I are here to support you.
How? via...
- Calls where we jam on your community strat
- Helping you launch it
- Being a thought partner to ensure the dials are set up so the community and members thrive
- Listening to your feedback (and doing something great with it)
ALL of the above are part of my role (can't believe I get to do this for work 🥹)
That's how much it matters to the team that YOUR community succeeds. And that your members genuinely love their experience too.
There are 1 million business reasons to make community a part of your strategy.
But what's really freaking exciting for me is the idea of *so many more* communities being available for a variety of humans to join, participate in, nerd out in, connect in.
So yes, I'm repping community with the incredible @beehiiv team with whom it has been a privilege to work with over the last month.
And I'll still keep supporting all kinds of community architects by sharing more about the work that goes into community. I also hope this means I'll connect with + learn from more of them (you??). DMs and comments open!!
Now, I shall return to the work. I think @denk_tweets 🐝 just DM'ed me 234 ideas. See you all around here more. 💕
i'm pretty sure that the next generation of great marketers won't have a traditional marketing background at all (yes, i am biased)
subject matter experts tend to have strong perspectives, knowledge, and relationships in their space. these assets are more valuable than any playbook, training, or certification, especially as more intimate, network-based growth tactics (i.e. customer referral programs and IRL events) dominate over conventional growth tactics

TIL I have really strong opinions about “Member Directories”
99% of them are not useful
But they play such an important role in a community
We can do better

I’ve gotten to explain the “why” behind product decisions more times in the last 24 hours than ever before
Even if the question is simply
“Can I do [insert thing]”
I can’t seem to answer with a simple “yes / no / here’s how”
And it has been a treat to explain:
- Why it’s a fast follow instead of live already
- Why we waited so when you can it’s even more delightful
- Even why it’s not something the platform supports because it would negatively affect initial member experience
These convos rock because the users get a peek into our decision making (in addition to the quicker answer).
I see it as an opportunity to point folks in a slightly diff direction for a better outcome
Plus, a chance for us to recalibrate “the roadmap” in real time, which is fun
A very very rewarding part of the work
Thank you, hiiv community, for this. Keep em’ coming.
@wifiimoolah@beehiiv Yes we are on this! Fast follow bc you can (for a short time) use a button & hyperlink.
Maybe “Join the discussion” as a button at the bottom of the NL?
But smooth embedded options are coming soon. Ty for the feedback Kris!
Not on the short term roadmap but here's why
With an RSS, the community feed might turn into more of a broadcast. It'd seed the idea that your members should come into the community to consume vs. contribute / connect / discuss etc.
Community is supported on beehiiv mcp so you could have a workflow set up to post things from your account though if that helps
Lmk what other use cases you're thinking!
Community launched on beehiiv yesterday
A few hours later @SeamusHughes puts on a masterclass on how to launch one
✅ Clearly states the value of joining
✅ Invites readers to fill the room
✅ Makes clear *who* it’s for
✅ Exciting paid offering he can deliver on
✅ Reduces friction “it’s easy to keep up with the app”
✅ Adds instructions on how to get it
✅ Shares theres more coming and is likely going to build more out *with* his members in the room
All in 2 paragraphs. A clear community strategy leads to clarity which makes launching so well possible 👏👏👏
Loveeeee to see it
@NiklausFuller You can embed a https://t.co/QaX1DRu49Q calendar in the community :)
So members can easily find alllll the events + each other. But you have the full powers/functionality of luma to manage registration
