It really hits me every time I take a tour of a Tesla factory.
Seeing the scale of it, the beauty, all the tens of thousands of people who are able to make a good living doing something good for the world. It’s a truly wonderful thing.
We can talk about Tesla all day, but seeing those hard working people building autonomous electric vehicles for everyone with their bare hands… it really drives it home for me what this company is all about.
I started covering this company 8 years ago because of all the irrational hatred I saw. Never in my life have I seen such an unequivocally good thing met with so much hatred and resistance. The reasons have changed, but the feeling has only intensified as Tesla has become bigger and more successful. 8 years ago we were told you should hate Tesla because it’s a fraud, or it was going to go bankrupt, or EVs could never be profitable. Now we’re supposed to hate Tesla because of Elon Musk’s tweets, or because he’s become too successful or wealthy, or because we should hate AI.
None of these are good reasons to fight against autonomous electric vehicles that save lives, reduce pollution, and make people smile. When I was growing up we were told that we had to move to electric vehicles, or the world would end, or at least become very hot.
Then someone actually made an electric vehicle, one that’s better than any gas car… and people have been brainwashed into thinking that polluting the air and the atmosphere is morally superior to buying that car. “Deport Elon Musk!” they chant outside the Tesla Diner as Los Angeles endures another 100+ degree heatwave in mid October. What would have been a global warming doomsday scenario 10 years ago is now just their day to day, and they’ve been brainwashed into thinking buying more gas is the answer, as if the oil & gas CEOs are voting for Democrats.
The bears insist, eloquently and confidently, that Cybercab doesn’t matter. Nobody cares about autonomy, or if they do every company will have it. Huh? A car is driving me around with no steering wheels and pedals and you’re trying to convince me this doesn’t matter? I’m sorry, but it’s hard to ignore my own eyes and ears. It’s hard to imagine how this doesn’t change the way we live.
So thank you to all the workers at the factories around the world, sweating to pull the future into the present. Thank you to all of the customers and fans who showed their support, who told their friends and family, who bought the products with their hard earned dollars. Even when peers pressured you, and turned many former fans into haters and naysayers, you’re still here. It wouldn’t be possible without all of you.
What a wonderful gift to the world these factories are. The products they produce, the people they employ, the technology they bring to the masses. I got started covering Tesla because there was a coordinated attempt to kill the company. They fought hard to make sure places like Giga Texas never got built.
And as I stand here today i’m so thankful that they failed, thanks to all of you.
@MikeBales I got off X (my only social media) for 9 months of peace.
I did use YouTube, but it’s like watching TV which I never do … happy to be back.
Flip side Mike … enjoy it.
