HE BEGGED FOR HIS LIFE. THE KILLER KILLED HIM ANYWAY.
THIS MAN MUST BE FOUND!
The photograph is of a man wanted in connection with the murder of a taxi driver.
The now-viral in-car camera footage is extremely difficult to watch. The victim appears to realise what is about to happen. He begs for his life and tells his killers that he has small children.
His pleas are ignored.
He is shot and killed anyway.
Why? For what?
What could possibly justify taking the life of a man who posed no threat and was simply begging to be allowed to return home to his children?
There are details in the footage that investigators will undoubtedly examine closely. One suspect appears to be wearing a glove on the hand allegedly used to fire the weapon, while also wearing a long-sleeved garment covering the arm and wrist. Whether this was deliberate or not is a matter for investigators and forensic experts to establish.
The apparent conduct of the shooter also raises questions about whether this was a spontaneous killing or a deliberate, planned attack.
These suspects must be identified, arrested and brought before a court of law.
Because if killers can carry out executions like this and simply disappear back into our communities, who will be next?
And while the police have a critical responsibility to investigate and arrest those responsible, the public also has a role to play.
If you recognise this man, DO NOT CONFRONT HIM. DO NOT APPROACH HIM. DO NOT TAKE THE LAW INTO YOUR OWN HANDS.
Give the information to the SAPS.
A name.
A vehicle registration.
A location.
A workplace.
A friend or associate.
A previous address.
Any piece of information could help investigators.
Sometimes criminals believe that once the trigger is pulled, the evidence disappears.
It doesn’t.
Cameras record.
People remember.
Forensic evidence can speak.
Investigators keep digging.
And we must keep looking for the people responsible.
The taxi driver had children. He begged to live. He deserved to go home.
Let us help ensure that the person responsible does not simply walk away from what happened.
Because another family should not have to bury a father, husband or loved one because someone decided that his life meant nothing.
JUSTICE FOR THE VICTIM.
ACCOUNTABILITY FOR THE KILLER.
