I am excited to be asked by @rishisunak to be Chairman of the @conservatives
I joined the Party in 1986 - a ward chairman in 1992, a councillor in 1998, a Group Leader in 1999, an MP in 2005, a Minister in 2011 - an honour to chair it in 2023!
The work starts right away.
🙏 Thank you to everyone who voted and congratulations to all the winners!
🛍 Don’t forget to support all our local independent businesses across Cannock Chase!

📢 Today is #SmallBizSatUK. That means it’s time to announce the winners of my “Best of Cannock Chase” competition.
🏆 Business Secretary @grantshapps is delighted to announce Chocolate Treasures in Heath Hayes on winning the “Best of Cannock Chase” award. 1/2
This morning it was a privilege to attend the service in Hednesford to mark Armistice Day.
Earlier this week, I was also honoured to place a remembrance cross on behalf of all residents of Cannock Chase in the Parliamentary Garden of Remembrance.
We will remember them.
A big loss - Darren is one of the best in the business
As Chairman Darren’s wise counsel was so vital - there was nothing he hadn’t seen after working for the party for over 30y!
Darren was a big part of making my time at CCHQ so brilliant & for that I’ll be forever grateful
Congratulations @RishiSunak
With Rishi as PM we have someone who will work tirelessly to tackle the challenges facing our country
As a Party we need to come together and get behind Rishi
There has never been a greater need for our party to come together.
Our country is facing difficult times and the way to solve those issues is to unite as a party.
That’s why I’m backing @RishiSunak.
We can all see the enormity of the challenges we face, from the war in Ukraine, to growing our economy.
To address these we have to support whoever becomes the next PM and work tirelessly on behalf of the British people.
The last few weeks show that being PM is tough and no other job in government is quite like it.
I know Boris has learned lessons from his time in No10 and will ensure the focus is on the needs of the country from day 1.
I will be supporting him to return to the role of PM.
When I was Chancellor, I saw a preview of what Boris 2.0 would look like. He was contrite & honest about his mistakes. He’d learned from those mistakes how he could run No10 & the country better.
With a unified team behind him, he is the one to lead us to victory & prosperity 2/2
I’m backing Boris. He got the big calls right, whether it was ordering more vaccines ahead of more waves of covid, arming 🇺🇦 early against the advice of some, or stepping down for the sake of unity. But now, Britain needs him back. We need to unite to deliver on our manifesto 1/2
We need a leader with a proven track record of delivery, the resilience to lead our country, a mandate from the British people and the ability to defeat Keir Starmer.
That’s why I’m backing @BorisJohnson to finish the job he started in 2019.

As one of the original @BorisJohnson backers there is only one candidate who has a proven track record of delivery for the British people 🇬🇧 💪
#BringBackBoris
Comments like this about @Conservatives colleagues from No10 are totally unacceptable.
No10 need to focus on tackling the issues facing our country, not sniping against their own MPs.
I had heard via sources that Truss team had sounded out Javid. As a former CX who’d backed Truss, he’d have been an obvious choice for CX. When you need to win the party, this sort of briefing so damaging. Another own goal via @cazjwheeler & @HarryYorke1
Honoured to pay tribute to Her Late Majesty The Queen today
I offered His Majesty The King & all the Royal Family mine & my constituents heartfelt condolences
As we mourn the loss of Queen Elizabeth II we know His Majesty had an excellent mentor who’ll continue her great legacy
“Queen Elizabeth was a life well lived; a promise with destiny kept and she is mourned most deeply in her passing. That promise of lifelong service I renew to you all today.”
His Majesty The King addresses the Nation and the Commonwealth.
Her Majesty the Queen dutifully served our country through every high and low we have faced.
Today we have lost not just a Monarch but a figurehead for all that the United Kingdom represents, at home and across the world.
For your service - we thank you. May you Rest in Peace.
