Globally prosecutors routinely allow settlements, plea bargains and negotiated resolutions in financial and corporate cases. Even in India, banks often withdraw the ‘wilful defaulter’ tag once a One-Time Settlement (OTS) is reached.
This is not unique to Adani. Similar mechanisms have been used in the past in cases involving major global companies such as HSBC Holdings in money-laundering probes, Airbus in bribery allegations, Siemens in corruption cases, and Boeing in corporate fraud matters.
The difference is that in India, far more noise is made around such settlements than in the US or Europe, where these are treated as part of established legal and regulatory practice. #adani #doj #usa
