The player was right. The deal was wrong. And you can’t let one fact deny you of the other and its implications. Keep strong in negotiations. Make sure your targets want you as much as you want them. And make the deal as much of a win-win as humanly possible.

I forgot to mention he’d also be earning around £250k p/week at Spurs. If Man United agreed to that and let an £85M deal inevitably affect future business, United fans would be in even more of a meltdown than right now. If it ain’t right, it ain’t right. 🤷🏽‍♂️

In my opinion you can’t have it both ways. And I think the same fans overreacting to not spending this much on him now would be the first to cry when that level of overspend inevitably impacts future business. This isn’t ‘penny pinching’, this is refusing to be taken for a ride.

I’m upset that we lost out on these two, but not for £116M and £85M respectively.

They’re not worth that and no United fan would’ve been happy with that kind of deal.

Sucks we didn’t get Mateus Fernandes IMO but the deal didn’t make financial sense.

Back to the drawing board.
