@LancsUniLEC MSc student enthusiastic for river ecology and restoring our freshwater ecosystems. Oggling our rivers and mountains by kayak or foot. Keen birder.
@JonesGojonesy78@AllFishOnTheFly@ProfJGrey@TM_WRT@Riverflies It is! We recorded 91 at Damas Gill (ranging from a teeny 23mm to a whopping 96mm)! Whenever we caught the little'uns the phrase "the lesser of two wee-bulls" kept springing to mind...
Plenty wriggling treasures revealed beneath the water's surface on a number of Wyre brooks today & yesterday during electrofishing surveys with @ProfJGrey@TM_WRT. Trout, eel, bullhead, perch, & substrate crawling with @Riverflies :)
Seeking the shadiest & coolest of headwaters to survey in current conditions. We always check water temperatures for fish welfare.
Great to find plenty of YOY trout upstream of @TM_WRT@WildTroutTrust low cost baffle #fishpassage solution: https://t.co/WTwmROYLGn

@rivercide_live https://t.co/Kf3s7qFhrp At a loss of anything to do this eve? Live investigation only 10 minutes in, come and learn about who is responsible for UK river pollution...
Electrofishing along two Wyre brooks today with @ProfJGrey! I feel as though a machete should be added to standard kit list... ๐ although we were blessed with eels (& elvers!) it was sad to see them gasping for air, one brook being quite eutrophic with poss. low dissolved oxygen
โBritain has some of the most beautiful rivers in Europe. So how do we celebrate this natural beauty?โ
1st Rivercide trailer released today, featuring @GeorgeMonbiot and ๐ฉ๐ฉ๐ฉ๐ฉ๐ฉ๐ฉ๐ฉ

@RSPBLeightonM have been monitoring eels migrating along the dyke from Morecambe bay into the reserve since the 90's! Excited to spend more time with these lovely wee elvers. I wonder how many will make it back to the Atlantic vs how many will become a bitterns breakfast!
On day 1 of #INNSweek we want everyone to know Rhododendron ponticum is one of the greatest threats to #Scotlandsrainforest. 40% of our remaining rainforest sites in Scotland are being choked by this invasive shrub. Read on to find out why. Please DO NOT plant it!
When it comes to breeding colours the 3 spined stickleback gets all the glory but lets take a moment to appreciate its smaller and scarcer cousin the 9 spined stickleback. Males turn a glorious mix of ebony and subtle greens, flanked with ivory spikes that flare out.

Excellent fun wee test survey of the River Conder through @LancasterUni's site Forrest Hill. Electrofishing revealed a number of brown trout, bullhead, eel and minnow! Slippy substrate meant one near miss - thanks @ProfJGrey whose ninja-like reactions prevented my swim ๐
Fantastic evening of Atlantic salmon talks organised by Nick Chisholm of the @gallowayglens partnership. Nearly 200 folk tuned in to hear the dulcet tones of @kenwhelan0451 of @AST_Salmon and Sam Beck of @Galloway_FT - some great chat.
