A trial led by @amy_ahern, authored by @Julia_Namanka, @penny_breeze et al, found behav. weight management + dietary counselling in type 2 #diabetes didn’t improve HbA1c but may help people lose weight and be cost-effective compared with standard care https://t.co/mPjTMyWKG4 🔓
Great to hear @CaraRuggiero discussing her “why” and the importance of finding your people in research. We’re very glad we found Cara/she found us and brought her passion and skills to our team. Excited about her developing new ideas in food insecurity and infant feeding.
This month's The Confidence Interval guest is Dr @CaraRuggiero.
Cara is a Research Associate, whose focus is Prevention of Diabetes and Related Metabolic Disorders in High Risk Groups.
Cara shares her journey from nutritionist to researcher.

@ClareHLlewellyn 😂 me neither. I have a team full of brilliant collaborative women who are a joy to work with, but they are all far too interesting for “polite” to be a defining feature.
I still hold that “nicely turned out” is the worst reference I got for a PhD candidate 🤢
It was great to catch up with many of my former (and recently joined!) @MRC_Epid colleagues last night. I feel like you always remain part of the 'family' you did your PhD in
@CaraRuggiero We are grateful to you and the energy, enthusiasm and ideas you have brought to the team. 🤩 We are also grateful to Brandon for supporting you to join us - and for his extra long selfie arms! 😊
@TamlaHealthPsyc We’re lucky to have you! Can’t believe you and @MarieSpreckley have only been with us a month. The productivity is as high as the festive spirits! 🤩🥂🍾
The UK does the holidays so well and it's already been a very full month of festivities 🌟 I'm so grateful for this amazing team and the time we got to spend together celebrating!
Congratulations to @laura_kudlek for submitting her PhD thesis and having her second PhD paper published last week 🤩 🥳 It has been an absolute pleasure to mentor this rising star in the psychology of eating behaviour and obesity and I have learnt so much working with her 🤩
🔔 Excited to share this publication 🔔 We found that behavioural weight management interventions improve several eating behaviour traits like restraint 📊 We found no evidence of an impact on emotional eating - highlighting directions for future work 🙌
New paper from our new Programme Manager @MarieSpreckley on advancing health and fostering community involvement in medical research through the Genes & Health study. Excited to apply her learnings to our work on SWiM and improve participation and engagement of underserved groups
