Such an awesome, feel good story. Even in my (half assed) attempts to find this treasure, I found myself exploring places I hadn't seen years, or sometimes ever. Bravo.
Lay down your shovels, stow away your maps and relinquish your quest for riches: a treasure hunt that captivated San Francisco ended this week, across the bridge in Marin.
I had the delight of hearing the treasure finders' tale.

I don't let my kids on social media. As Governor, I'll make sure all parents have that choice by requiring parental consent for social media use under 16. These platforms can be addictive — we need to take all the steps necessary to safeguard our kids. https://t.co/l5ySgnlA3F

.@jonstewart is right — being governor of California isn’t easy. I jumped in this race a few weeks back precisely because “undecided” was winning. No one in the race had managed to capture the imagination, the trust, and the support of the people because no one was talking about how they would fix the problems affecting us every day. It’s still early, but as we’ve shared our message across the state — in Altadena, Imperial Beach, Watsonville, Sacramento, San Diego and so many other communities — we’re finding so many people who agree: government needs to do better before asking hardworking people to pay more.
We spend 55% more per student than Mississippi — and get worse outcomes. 85% of Mississippi’s third graders read at grade level. In California, it’s just 49%. Clearly, the question shouldn’t be how we spend more — the question should be how we spend better so that our kids can succeed.
NEW PODCAST EPISODE
Sam Harris speaks with Matt Mahan @MattMahanSJ, mayor of San Jose and candidate for governor of California, about the dysfunction of progressive governance, the homelessness crisis, why California can't build housing affordably, and other topics.
BREAKING: In an incredible moment with Jon Stewart, San Jose Mayor Matt Mahan just laid out the best case we've seen for how Democrats can win again. Let's go.
The next governor of California needs to focus on GOVERNING CALIFORNIA — effectively and well — and @MattMahanSJ is the only candidate articulating a back-to-basics agenda to make California work for all of us. As Democrats, proving good government can work must be Priority #1.
I know that government can make people’s lives better because I’ve experienced it firsthand. That’s what we need to focus on, and that’s why I’m running to be your next governor.
Some experts say gas prices could go to $7 per gallon. That’s why we need a temporary suspension of our state’s gas taxes, which are the highest in the nation. California leaders say they care about working families. Let’s make them prove it with a temporary suspension of our gas taxes while gas prices remain so high.
We can fix California's broken housing market, but we must be bold. This is my plan to lower fees, cut red tape, and dramatically lower the cost of construction so we start building housing Californians can afford.

Sacramento can't keep spending more on the same programs and expect different results. The years I spent as a public school teacher and a startup founder taught me that results require a relentless focus on the data — we set goals, measure outcomes, and can never be afraid to say something isn’t working. I brought that same mindset to San Jose, and as governor, I’ll bring it statewide.
Back to Basics is about bringing back hope. Thanks so much to the nearly 1,000 people who attended our field kick-off in San Jose today. Your belief in a better California inspires me.

Focus works. In San Jose, we got back to basics — and over the last couple years, we moved thousands of people into shelter, unlocked thousands of housing units, and solved every homicide. Now we need to take that same focus to the state level.
I’m running to get Sacramento focused on the issues that matter most to you, the basics. You deserve to be safe walking down the street at night, you deserve to own a home you can afford, and you should be able to send your kid to a great public school. With focus and accountability, we can make it happen.
