#OnThisDay 33 years ago the Waterloo & City Line's 1940 stock (Class 487) ran for the last time. The curious trains replaced the original 1898 fleet and were superseded by Class 482 (1992 Stock). Great footage from the final day by Fred Ivey, full video: https://t.co/i4RfikOE9K
There needs to be transparency of the royal family finances and accountability of their actions. It’s about time elected politicians represented the people and the tax payers rather than doff their caps to royalty.
“The mood has changed, and it has darkened.”
Charlie Falconer tells @bbcnickrobinson the allegations against Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor have led politicians to question their own relationship with the monarchy. Andrew has previously denied any wrongdoing in relation to Epstein.
@vincecable You are absolutely right in calling for transparency & dealings of Andrew M-W and Epstein + Stern when he was a trade envoy. Looks more like he has passed on secrets & this offered financial gain. Any civil servant or politician would hve already had a police visit.
Mega-scandal of #MandelsonEpstein is about #trust in public life. International indicators show Western democracies in terrible trouble on public trust.https://t.co/n2Kk7sP9Vh
Swedish PM: "Swedish Armed Forces personnel have begun deploying to Greenland today as part of a group from several allied European nations. [...] Sweden is sending personnel from the Armed Forces at Denmark’s request."
Article says:
“free Park & Ride travel from 19 to 24 January, thanks to the West of England Mayoral Combined Authority.”
@WestofEnglandCA as resident who lives on the Newbridge P&R route but it doesn’t stop to pick up, will residents get free bus travel over this period too?
Bristol airport expansion is underpinned by a business case totally reliant on car parking revenue, of which dropping off is part of. A rail link is discussed at every expansion but promised later with an inadequate bus service provided. Blatant profiteering.
Airport drop-off fees league table:.
Yesterday: topped by many airports at £7.
Today: Bristol makes audacious break for the summit with a £8.50 fee.
Tomorrow: Gatwick soars to the top, up from £7 to £10.
And from nowhere London City pops in at 3rd with £8.

And for as long as the building has been closed, i and others have been denied access to the Roman mosaic in the basement. During the planning process I was assured that public access to the mosaic would be maintained. But this has not been the case.
If she is walking in that direction she’s not taking the quickest route to the railway station.
Congested and busy yes, but as locals we all know the routes to take in the city centre to avoid the crowds. I think the post is a bit made up and exaggerated.
@landatthebottom@Illuminatweet2@seatsixtyone Have you tried booking a sleeper across Europe? Many are demand priced. There is clearly demand and I guess that one of the stops will be Hamburg, so Basel and Hamburg are major rail connection hubs
@BBCAnyQuestions
Today Chris Bryant was correct.
Pope Leo is not the first American pope.
From the USA yes, North America yes, but pope Francis was from Argentina, which if my geography is correct is in the continent of America.
Can the BBC correct their reporting of this please
@bathnes @BATHNESHighways one short walk through Saw Close and these businesses are blocking the pavement with their A-boards. Pedestrians are needing to walk in the road and dodge traffic needs some ward action @bathnesld
An E-bike burst into flames on the Northern end of the Met line today, had this happened in a tunnel it could have been catastrophic.
E-scooters and e-unicycles are banned on TfL services but e-bikes are still not.
They are just as dangerous, @TfL needs to act now and ban them.
UK faces youth jobs crisis as number of ‘neets’ rises to almost 1m - The Guardian.
Always a worrying figure for any area of the UK. The article refers to a cooling jobs market but most business sectors talk of a skills shortage. https://t.co/GOdTfRedgt
@bathnes the pavement on the upper Bristol Road was partially iced up this morning and is very dangerous. Existing drainage needs to be cleaned. @bathnesld please get this improved. Thx
@UCLAlumni
A few of us engineering graduates from @ucl organised a meet up in London today. A mere 40 years after arriving at UCL.
Caught up with Jeremy Bentham and engaged with a post grad event in the engineering faculty. I think we enjoyed ourselves, thank you UCL
But Brexit was all to address the divisions in the Tory party. The sad truth was that labour then realised that the ordinary people of this country had been sold a lie over many years and their party were unable to undo their own lies.
🚨 WATCH: Keir Starmer's full press conference about the latest migration figures under the Tories
"This happened by design, not by accident. Brexit was used as an excuse to turn Britain into a one-nation experiment in open borders."
