From Parenting App to Leading Childcare Marketplace
@Winnie started as a tool for parents to find kid-friendly spots, but its pivot to focus on childcare transformed the business.
@Alex sat down with Sara Mauskopf @sm to learn how Winnie’s grown into a national resource for daycare, preschool, aftercare, and more.
"We spent years building the platform, amassing a massive directory of childcare data to support parents and providers across the U.S."
Today, on Mom’s Equal Pay Day, we visited Guidepost Montessori in Emeryville, CA with @Winnie. Childcare is critical infrastructure- like technology and roads- that allows women to work and meet their families’ economic needs.
California services like https://t.co/wxJJNiP3I4 along with childcare centers like Guidepost, and connectors like Winnie, help us reduce gaps in access to care. #MomsEqualPayDay
FYI it took me many years to figure out
“It’s important for us to build a relationship with you long before we invest”
actually just means
“we are trying to gather intelligence on your industry for free and have no intent to invest in your company”
It feels pretty darn good to have @Winnie make it on the #Inc5000 list of the fastest-growing private companies by revenue this year (177 overall, 1 in Consumer Services)
I decided to use this opportunity to write a little bit about how we got here https://t.co/JbVDDpVz2W
I dated @mauskopf for 3-4 months before deciding to marry him and @annekate I knew about the same amount of time before deciding to start a company with her. Gonna be celebrating 12 years and 8 years respectively. With some people you just know.
@sm@mauskopf Most of the time when operating a fast moving business you don’t have 18 months to make decisions. Invest in founders with killer instincts 😎
The head of a company should be able to focus on running that company and making payroll, not scrambling to become a banking expert. That’s one reason why we have regulations in the first place. And we need to make them stronger. https://t.co/sLGMtG7SV8
0/ So grateful for the probably 50+ people who helped @Winnie in some meaningful way these past few days. To name a few folks (besides @annekate & @mauskopf obviously) who were on call for me ALL WEEKEND at all kind of crazy hours:
