Bobby Witt Jr out of the lineup again but was on the field “initiating baseball activity” today. He wore a brace and threw, ran, took ground balls and hit for the first time since injuring his knee. Training staff said it went well but too early to give a time line for a return.
Stephen Kolek recorded five outs today. He allowed nine runs and nine hits. This has turned into a bullpen game, and the #Royals are trailing 9-2 in the second inning.
No Bobby Witt Jr. in today’s lineup but manager Matt Quatraro says Witt is feeling better and walking around better today. He’ll be getting treatment today and will be reevaluated ahead of tomorrow’s game. #Royals
Manager Matt Quatraro: “It’s not a surgical thing. … It’s going to be a lot of get the swelling out of there and understand how he feels. And those conversations are going to have to be honest between all of us.”
IL remains a possibility, he said.
Trying this again as I worked out the confusion between sprain and strain. My apologies. It is a Grade 1 sprain. #Royals will reevaluate how Witt feels Sunday after the off day tomorrow. All in all, they feel optimistic because it could have been a lot worse.
This is Salvador Perez's 137th career home run at Kauffman Stadium. That's the most ever hit in the 54-year history of this ballpark, breaking a tie with George Brett.
And make it 313 career home runs for Salvy... four away from tying Brett for the franchise record (317).
Now Bobby Witt Jr. is being pinch-hit for in the bottom of the fourth inning. Tyler Tolbert stepping in. Witt was rubbing his right knee/leg as he jogged into the dugout. #Royals
