Meet our speaker Ryder Strauss is a Postdoctoral Scholar at the University of Washington. He earned his Ph.D. at Northern Arizona University, where he began working on large-scale astronomical surveys.

he works at the intersection of astronomy and data science, designing instruments that push the frontiers of discovery. He is the technical lead of the Alert Production team for the Rubin Observatory, which will provide real-time detection of everything that changes in the sky.

Samantha Garza is a 4th year Astro PhD Candidate. She currently researches the atmospheres of galaxies to further our understanding of how galaxies evolve over time. In her free time she enjoys crafting, playing volleyball, learning how to figure skate, & baking for her friends.

Tom is a newly minted Dr. in Astronomy at UW and he loves binary stars. When he's not doing astronomy or frolicking around campus, you'll find him playing field hockey, unnecessarily jumping over objects & saying painfully British things like "I'm on it like a car bonnet mate".
