The 2026 edition takes place at a pivotal geopolitical moment marked by democratic backsliding, rising authoritarianism, and escalating attacks on LGBTIQ+ communities worldwide.
π¨βπ« The Roundtables are supported through philanthropic and community sources of funding, along with Global Affairs Canada-funded initiatives, including the Equitas-led Act Together for Inclusion Fund (ACTIF) and the public engagement component of the Oxfam Canada CHOICE Project.
π¬ The Dignity Roundtables are Dignity Network Canadaβs major biennial convening, bringing together approximately 200 leaders from civil society, government, philanthropy, and international movements.
π³οΈβπ The session focused on strategies and tactics for influencing "An Active and Mobilized Sector: Which Strategies Do We Need?" We got participants to break up into three groups (Advocacy, Funding, and Programming) to discuss the question:...
...how we can and should organize as communities and organizations to achieve greater visibility and uptake of global LGBTIQ+ rights issues, including in funding and programming decisions, and drawing on learning from wider gender equality and human rights networks?
πββοΈ Midnight Poonkasetwattana (APCOM Executive Director and DNC Global Advisory Board), and Odette McCarthy (Equitas Executive Director), co-facilitated one of the last breakout sessions of the Dignity Network Canada's 5th International Roundtable Meetings.
