When a child has a fever or a neighbour collapses, this Primary Healthcare Centre in Enugu is the only place this community can run to.
But the PHC looks quiet, like an old building left behind.
See, this is not just about wanting better. It's time for us to get involved, because healthcare is everybody's responsibility. It’s time to #KnowYourPHC.
If you share the number of psychiatrists in Nigeria across the whole population, you get 1 psychiatrist to serve over 1.5 million Nigerians.
And many of these psychiatrists are in the cities. The remaining have japa'd
This is heartbreaking, but she may be experiencing what is known as Premature Ovarian Insufficiency (POI). It is also referred to as premature menopause.
Many people think menopause only happens around age 50. But sometimes, a woman’s ovaries can pack up before she even clocks 40.
Think of a woman’s ovaries like a bank account that holds all the eggs she will ever have.
Every month, her body makes a withdrawal (ovulation). Normally, this continues until around age 50.
But with POI, the bank closes much earlier than expected.
When the ovaries stop working properly, they produce much less estrogen, and her periods may stop.
That might explain why her ultrasound looked normal (the womb itself was structurally fine), but her blood tests showed that her hormone levels had dropped significantly.
Why does this happen?
Sometimes it’s genetic.
Sometimes the immune system mistakenly attacks the ovaries.
And many times, doctors simply don’t know why it happens. It just does.
If your period suddenly disappears for 3 months or more and you’re not pregnant, don’t ignore it.
See a gynaecologist and get the appropriate hormone blood tests done.
AwaDoc can help you book a certified medical professional, and you can also arrange your hormone tests through AwaDoc:

The chances are exactly 0. You cannot get HIV from a mosquito bite because
1. Mosquitoes are not flying injections. When a mosquito bites someone and sucks their blood, that blood goes into the mosquito's stomach and is completely digested. The HIV virus is destroyed in the mosquito's stomach during this process.
2. The "H" in HIV stands for HUMAN. The virus cannot survive, grow, or multiply inside an insect.
3. When a mosquito bites you, it does not vomit the previous person's blood into your body. It only injects its own saliva (to stop your blood from clotting so it can drink in peace). That saliva can carry the malaria parasite, but it cannot carry HIV.
In that compound, you are completely safe from HIV, but not malaria.

@aproko_doctor Imagine living in a 'face-me-I-slap-you' compound surrounded by mosquitoes, and there’s an HIV-positive person living among them. What are the chances of other occupants contracting HIV through a mosquito bite?
One of the greatest harms you can do to yourself is becoming addicted to drugs. It only makes your life miserable. 🥹

Thank you @aproko_doctor. God bless you sir.
For four year I’ve been smoking and never taken a break even for a day. I started this week with a new resolution, that I’ll take control of my mind and see if I can go a day without smoking… it’s been three days now and I haven’t smoked, something I never believed I could do. I’m proud of you Declan.
