Accommodated Training is a method that uses bands on an exercise to create the most resistance where the body is strongest and reduce it where it is weakest.
Adding a specific tempo to the exercise to determine the end of a set, rather than a specific number of repetitions, helps maintain strength during taper and minimizes muscle damage during a workout.
This video demonstrates the deadlift, and this technique is particularly helpful because it is hard for some individuals to perform it properly under load.
Finding the correct weight is determined through experimentation during the strength phase of the season. Maintaining the correct tempo should be challenging between 5 and 10 repetitions.
Recommended lower-body tempo is between 60 and 90 BPM, and upper-body tempo between 120 and 140 BPM.

The award celebrates coaches who make a lasting difference in the lives of athletes, fellow coaches, and their communities through leadership, mentorship, service, and dedication to the sport. The 2026 recipient will be announced during the ASCA World Clinic on September 11 in Orlando, Florida.
This year's World Clinic theme is "Grassroots to Podium: It Starts With Us," highlighting the essential role coaches play at every level of athlete development—from introducing young swimmers to the sport to guiding athletes to the highest levels of international competition.
