An FIR has been registered in connection with the alleged embezzlement of donations at the Ram temple in Ayodhya, officials said on June 25, as the Uttar Pradesh government intensified its probe into the matter.
The FIR was lodged based on a complaint filed by Krishna Mohan, a member of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust. Officials said the case was registered following recommendations made in the preliminary report submitted by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) to the state government earlier this week.
A senior government official said the SIT had made "strong and strict" recommendations after its initial inquiry, adding that Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath was taking the matter seriously.
"Whoever is found guilty will face strict action," the official said.
The Uttar Pradesh government had constituted the SIT on June 13 following a request from the temple trust after allegations surfaced regarding the alleged misappropriation of donations received at the Ram temple.
The SIT submitted its preliminary findings to the state government two days ago. The investigation is continuing, and officials are expected to act further based on the team's final report.

The action was taken after Housing and Urban Affairs minister Kaushik Rai inspected cleanliness and sanitation arrangements from the Bhootnath Cremation Ground to the Kamakhya Temple.
According to an official statement, instances of dereliction of duty by personnel deployed for maintaining cleanliness in the area were detected during the inspection. Following the findings, Pradip Sarma, Assistant Executive Engineer of GMC, and Abul Hussain, a road labourer with the civic body, were placed under suspension with immediate effect.
The GMC Commissioner has also written to the Secretary of the Panchayat and Rural Development department seeking withdrawal of attachment of Sivasish Borah, a Junior Engineer of the department currently attached to GMC, and recommended initiation of departmental disciplinary proceedings against him.
