During his first visit to Mozambique, Acting Deputy Assistant Secretary Christopher Kulukundis met President Daniel Chapo (@daniel_chapo24) at the American Chamber of Commerce booth in FACIM’s Tunduru International Pavilion.

Their exchange highlighted Mozambique’s strong economic potential and the opportunities to deepen commercial ties between the United States and Mozambique.

A/DAS Kulukundis emphasized the United States’ readiness to work side by side with Mozambican and American businesses to expand investment, strengthen supply chains, create jobs, and build practical partnerships that deliver lasting value and mutual prosperity.

American health care innovation is now in Zambia. @AsstSecStateAF joined Ministry of Health Permanent Secretary for Donor Coordination, Dr. George Sinyangwe at University Teaching Hospital in Lusaka to mark the first U.S. government shipment of lenacapavir, a @GileadSciences HIV prevention medication requiring just two doses a year. Zambian health leaders Professor Lloyd Mulenga and Drs. Chimika Phiri and Mundia Mwitumwa briefed on the national PrEP program. The U.S.-Zambia partnership, delivering results.

During his visit, Deputy Assistant Secretary Meyer met with Minister of Finance Carla Loveira to discuss Mozambique’s economic outlook, current fiscal challenges, and the government’s priorities for strengthening macroeconomic stability and promoting sustainable growth.

The visit reaffirmed the United States’ commitment to partnering with Mozambique as it implements economic reforms that support greater stability, investment, and shared prosperity.

On Monday, @AsstSecStateAF Garcia sat down in Lusaka with Zambian entrepreneurs, investors, and private-sector leaders who are alumni of U.S. exchange programs including @YALINetwork and @ECAatState IVLP. The working lunch focused on expanding U.S.-Zambian trade and investment—access to finance, U.S. technology, and the commercial partnerships that help Zambian businesses scale.

On August 31, @AsstSecStateAF Garcia visited Circle of Hope, the organization whose community health model is now being replicated in Nigeria, Tanzania, and Zimbabwe after producing a 12-fold increase in HIV case-finding in Zambia. The Faith and Community Initiative, a U.S.-funded program operating across 17 countries, puts 80 percent of its funding directly into frontline health workers and local clinics, with a built-in transition plan to shift ownership to Zambian institutions. This is U.S. health investment designed to end – because the system it builds is designed to last.

The United States celebrates the signing of the concession agreement for the DRC portion of the Lobito Corridor between DFC-backed @motaengil and the DRC government witnessed by President Tshisekedi alongside Angolan President Lourenço. More than just infrastructure, the Lobito Corridor will bring jobs, power, and connectivity to the DRC, as well as secure access to critical minerals that strengthen U.S. supply chains and create American jobs. This is a foundational project under the U.S.-DRC Strategic Partnership Agreement and will catalyze additional transparent U.S. and U.S.-aligned investment into the DRC.

Food insecurity is rising as conflicts and crises strain humanitarian systems worldwide.

The WFP projects an additional 45 million people could face acute food insecurity globally. In the DRC, more than 16 million people need food assistance. In Sudan, conflict continues to drive the world’s largest humanitarian crisis.

The U.S. is working with governments and humanitarian organizations to address food insecurity and recently announced more than $1 billion in assistance to UNICEF and WFP for global humanitarian, nutrition and food security needs.
