Logical symmetry says: If it ends one life, it nullifies the one life saved.

If a policy’s claimed benefit is framed as saving even a single life being enough to justify it, then any life lost because of the policy, for example, a successful defensive use of a rifle that would no longer be legal, or a delay that allows a crime to occur, cancels that benefit under the same standard.

The phrase only works as a one-way justification if you ignore the other side of the ledger.

Pretty common sense stuff, but I guess we're not dealing with individuals who use that.
