Atlanta City Council honors Juneteenth — commemorating the end of slavery and celebrating the strength and contributions of African Americans.
This day calls us to reflect, learn, and continue building a community grounded in equity and inclusion. Atlanta’s civil rights legacy guides us forward.
District 10 Councilmember @AndreaBooneNow issues a statement marking the sixth anniversary of Juneteenth recognized as a city holiday.
“With Atlanta’s rich African-American heritage and its legacy in the civil rights movement, it felt right for the City to join the State of Georgia in honoring Juneteenth as a City holiday,” Boone said. “It makes me proud to see Atlanta’s diverse neighborhoods commemorate Juneteenth by celebrating the history, rich culture and vibrant traditions woven into this city’s identity.”
