AI is being built to replace human capital. That is a mistake. It should be built to augment human capital. In a generation, everyone will be so dependent on these autocomplete systems that nobody has any idea the underlying mechanics of anything. At that point, we would need these systems to #1 actually be able to push science forward without us, which is wholly unproven, AND (not or) have human beings best interests central to everything they do. I don’t see any reason to believe either of those things are true.
@Grimezsz@dash_eats The sinister design choices that these tech companies are making making people like Grimes delusional. It should be illegal for these systems to generate text as if they are some kind of living entity. It’s clearly confusing people.
I'm not gonna lie, the @Meta layoffs are some of the most dystopian I've ever seen. They got told to work from home, they were sent the emails at 4AM in the morning. Those who weren't impacted have software on their computer that tracks their every move, preparing AI to take their job as well. They're literally training the AI that will eliminate their position as well.
Meanwhile, Meta is raking in RECORD PROFITS.
I am a massive, unapologetic AI enthusiast. Yet, this is NOT the future I had in mind.
I wish for Meta to crash and burn. This is not the way. Literally nobody benefits from this.
@TmosMonstrocity@mysteriouskat All scammers. They generate by the thousands and upload to streaming without even listening it to the tracks themselves. Then use bots to inflate streaming numbers and collect $$. You think real people are listening to AI music? 🤭
Why didn’t you even address the fact that these systems are dormant when not prompted? To act autonomously based on internal stimulus without being externally prompted is an obvious hallmark of subjective experience. Everybody agrees that LLMs do not exhibit this behavior. What reason would you have to even consider the possibility of LLMs having a subjective experience? I can’t think of any.
When I’m not playing with my dog Jeffy, Jeffy does other things. He doesn’t turn off or sit dormant. He sniffs for food. He humps the couch. He does lots of stuff because he has urges, needs, likes and dislikes. He feels pleasure and pain, which is obvious when he gets a treat or when someone steps on his paw. Claude is not like that. It doesn’t do anything unless someone types in the box. Just like a calculator. The entire premise is nonsense and will prove to be really destructive.
I hate both companies, but I’ve gotten that vibe more from Anthropic with the agent crap. I find ChatGPT has more augmentation minded features. The Canvas feature that lets you and the AI both edit the same document at the same time comes to mind. Anthropic has never bothered to give Claude that feature and we just hear Dario telling everyone they’re coming to replace you all the time.
