1 September 1944 | Ceremonial handover of the SS hospital located to the east of the SS barracks near Auschwitz II-Birkenau camp took place.
The complex included several specialist barracks including a surgical ward, an internal ward, a dental ward, and an infectious diseases ward. In addition, it had a central heating system.

1 September 1916 | A Polish woman Antonina Rozwadowska, was born in Tarnów.
In #Auschwitz from 29 August 1942.

1 September 1907 | Czech Jewish woman, Marta Nagelbergová, was born in Prague.
She was deported to #Auschwitz from #Theresienstadt ghetto on 6 September 1943. She did not survive.
1 September 1942 | A Spanish man, Joaquín Corteillo, perished in #Auschwitz.
He was a farmer born in Valencia in January 1910. A republican engaged in fighting against the nationalists.
He was deported from a prison in Bremen & registered in Auschwitz on 18 July 1942 (no. 18186).
He was 32.

1 September 1905 | A Czech Jew, Arnošt Neuner, was born in Velký Osek.
He was deported to #Auschwitz from #Theresienstadt Ghetto on 18 December 1943. He did not survive.
1 September 1939 | Germany invaded Poland, which began World War II. The German army also used the territory of Slovakia, whose forces also participated in the unannounced attack.
288 days later, the first Polish men became prisoners of a new concentration camp created in the occupied Polish territories annexed into the Third Reich: #Auschwitz.

Three years later, on 1 September 1942, a transport of 560 Jews from the Westerbork camp in the occupied Netherlands arrived at Auschwitz. None of them were registered in the camp—they were all murdered in a gas chamber.

In July 1942 she was deported from #Westerbork to #Auschwitz with her daughter Christina. They were murdered in a gas chamber after arrival selection.

He joined the US Army & later emigrated to the US. He became a cantor.
He passed away in 2021.
