🔥 BIG WEEK FOR IOWA

Iowa just became a national leader in protecting children’s health and reclaiming childhood.

The Iowa MAHA Act:
✅ Limits K-5 classroom screen time to 60 minutes/day
✅ Removes harmful dyes & chemicals from school food
✅ Increases physical activity
✅ Restores the Presidential Fitness Test

Reducing excessive screen time in schools was a top legislative priority for M4L Iowa this session, and Iowa is now leading the nation on this issue. 

At the same time, the Office of the @Surgeon_General released a new warning on the harms of excessive screen use in children.

@SecKennedy called it “one of the most urgent public health challenges facing American children.”

Kids are spending more time on screens than sleeping, exercising, reading, or talking face-to-face with family and friends.

“Let kids live real life.”

Interim Surgeon General @Dr_Haridopolos was also in Iowa for the announcement and emphasized that this is “a call to reclaim childhood” and help children “live real life.”

Huge credit to @IAGovernor Kim Reynolds, Rep. @AustinHarrisIA, Senator Kara Warme, Rep, @samantha_fett, and everyone who helped move this from conversation… to law.

As the floor manager of this legislation, we:

✅ Make only healthy foods eligible for SNAP
✅ Ban the use of taxpayer money to buy soda, candy, and junk food
✅ Require schools to administer the Presidential Fitness Test
✅ Ban harmful dyes and chemicals in school meals
✅ Increase physical activity in Iowa schools
