This year more Aussies have started a uni degree than ever before.
And it’s just the start, because earlier this week the Parliament passed legislation that will open the doors of our universities even wider.
Why is our government making changes to trusts?
Because nurses, teachers, aged care workers and other wage earners are paying too much tax.
And those earning income from property investments, shares and other assets need to help a little bit more.
These changes will make the tax system fairer.
And help get the government into a position where we can pay for services we all rely on, like Medicare and our world-class hospitals, and give further tax cuts to those doing it toughest.

GET THE FACTS: The Coalition doubled Australia's gross debt even before COVID, and racked up almost two thirds of total gross debt.

25 years since Australia’s service in Afghanistan, our nation pays our deepest respect and gratitude to all who served our country.
We honour those who went and those who fell.
Those who came home wounded in body or soul.
And we honour their families and loved ones.
Lest we forget.
“I thought uni was for fancy people.”
That’s what Georgia said before she did a FEE-FREE Uni Ready course.
They’re short courses that give people the skills they need to start a uni degree.
Georgia said she wouldn’t be in higher education without this and if it wasn’t accessible on the Central Coast.
These courses change lives.
That’s why we’re investing an extra $1 billion over the next decade to expand access to these courses for more people like Georgia.
GET THE FACTS: Two thirds of Australia’s gross debt was racked up by the Coalition.
In just 9 years, the Coalition racked up $607.8 billion of gross debt, and doubled debt even before COVID.
Housing in Australia is really tough.
A year ago today, we opened up the 5% deposit program to all first home buyers.
Since then, more than 100,000 people have used it to get the keys to their first home.
There is so much more work to do to make housing more affordable for Australians.
But we are making real progress on a problem that has been decades in the making.
Melbourne needs a train to the airport. Labor is building it.
Together we’re getting Stage 2 underway, with major construction starting in 2028.
A new rail line. A brand-new Keilor East station. And a direct connection to the Metro Tunnel.
Another step closer to trains running all the way to Melbourne Airport.
Happy birthday to an icon.

Most importantly, a thoroughly decent person and friend.
Australia has a lot going for us and we have our fair share of challenges as well.
That’s why our responsible economic management and stronger budget is so important.
Government spending came down a bit in the budget outcomes we released this week, and the contribution of government spending to demand in the economy was the lowest in more than a decade.
Today, Australia ratified the High Seas Biodiversity Treaty, an important step towards protecting our shared ocean.
We are working with partners to safeguard our marine environment because what happens on the high seas affects our environment, economy and way of life.
