🗓️Today in Geneva is the final week of #PandemicTreaty negotiations.
💉Today's focus is Pathogen Access & Benefit Sharing (art 12), which remains unresolved after three years of discussion.
🤷🏽What goes in the main document, and what will be negotiated later in an Annex?
🧵
There’s a potential Ebola outbreak in DR Congo
BUT the CDC can’t communicate with the WHO to learn more
SO we will know less about this outbreak
And this increases the risk to everyone
Including us
THIS is what happens when we pull back
Stupidity.

“In modern history, it has not been this dry this late in the ostensible rainy season.” A climate scientist talks to @IChotiner about what really caused the Los Angeles fires to rage out of control—and how the area became so vulnerable to catastrophe. https://t.co/f1MGiMQmkx
CDC's Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report (MMWR) has provided real-time data and analysis about disease outbreaks and emerging health threats without a break every week since 1960.
Until today.
Still shocked that @KLM apparently thinks it’s ok to use this image of LA burning to depict the destination on my flight home late last week during the #LAFires. Why?!?!
The people of Georgia have been fighting for democracy.
They have a right to know what happened this weekend.
A right to see that irregularities are investigated swiftly, transparently, independently.
As free and fair elections are at the core of European values.

But where will they go @GavinNewsom? No infrastructure to support this policy. Jails/detention centers are not solutions. Neither are hospitals. Jails, court processes, emergency rooms cost more than housing and outreach programs. Fund long-term solutions, not cosmetic band-aids.
👇 This piece on women’s laughs — and other characteristics — which have been used against us for a long, long time. (e.g. women’s laughs feature in The Brothers Karamazov, which I’m currently reading.)
Refusing to quit is not always heroic resilience. It’s often stubborn rigidity.
Walking away from a losing battle is not a failure of grit. It's a triumph of wisdom.
Service is not only about stepping up to lead. It’s also about having the courage to step aside.
