Join us for the Great Arizona ShakeOut earthquake drill on Thursday, October 15th at 10:15 am Arizona time (or at another chosen date/time that works for your group). It only takes a minute or two to register, and registration can be done at the school or district level to save time. The drill itself is a simple Drop, Cover, and Hold On exercise that will last one minute. Demonstrations of the exercise in various situations can be found on the Great ShakeOut YouTube page.
Why prepare for earthquakes in Arizona? Well, Arizona is home to many active faults and historical earthquakes—these can be viewed on the AZGS Natural Hazards in Arizona webmap. Also, students may travel to areas of high earthquake hazard, such as California or the Pacific Northwest. It is critical to know how to act during earthquake shaking, and the Drop, Cover, and Hold On technique is the recommended technique by earthquake safety experts and organizations.
This year is the 15th consecutive year that the Arizona Geological Survey and Arizona Department of Emergency and Military Affairs have promoted ShakeOut as the best practice to employ during ground shaking that accompanies moderate to large earthquakes. There are currently over 29,000 participants enrolled in the Arizona ShakeOut, mostly from Yuma, Maricopa, Yavapai, Mohave, and Pima counties.

Gifted potential exists in every community.
IGNITE will help rural schools turn that potential into opportunity by strengthening local capacity to identify gifted learners, expand advanced learning opportunities, and provide the challenge and support students need to thrive.
In partnership with AAGT and HumRRO, IGNITE will turn what we learn through these rural communities into tools, practices, and resources to strengthen gifted education across Arizona.

A sincere thanks to our attendees, presenters, and exhibitors for helping make the 2026 Arizona Adult Education Institute: Strengthening Skills for Brighter Futures an inspiring and impactful event.
Together, we explored innovative workforce preparation strategies, discovered the power of building collaborative partnerships, examined the necessity of digital resilience, and leveraged data-driven decision making to better serve adult learners across Arizona.
We were honored to have keynote speaker Dr. Keisha Kingon Friday, September 18. Her experience leading T-Mobile's Project 10Million highlighted the importance of expanding access and opportunity through connectivity. Dr. King currently serves as U.S. Head of Strategic Engagement and Market Development, K–12 Education at Apple.
Thanks to all of Arizona’s adult education providers and partners - we look forward to continuing the work together!
