The Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa (BADEA) participated in the 2026 African Water Forum, held in N’Djamena, Chad, on 15–16 July 2026. The Bank was represented at the event by Eng. Hatem Aljabri, Head of the Agriculture Value Chains and Water Division.

The Forum brought together African leaders, as well as representatives of governments, the private sector, and financing and development institutions.

The Forum serves as an important African platform for advancing dialogue on policies, programmes, and plans in the water sector. It also provides an opportunity to discuss ways of addressing common challenges, exchange knowledge and expertise, and explore innovative partnerships and cooperation opportunities that contribute to mobilizing financial resources and investing them in support of the Sustainable Development Goals and inclusive development across African countries.

BADEA’s participation provided an opportunity to strengthen engagement with African countries, development partners, and international financial institutions, while showcasing the Bank’s role and ongoing efforts in supporting sustainable economic and social development in Africa through the financing of water-sector projects and programmes.

On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of @TheOPECFund, and as a reflection of the long-standing journey of cooperation and development partnership over the years between the Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa (BADEA) and the OPEC Fund for International Development, H.E. Mr. Abdullah Khalil Al-Musaibih, President of the Bank, presented a commemorative shield to H.E. Dr. Abdulhamid Alkhalifa, President of the OPEC Fund for International Development, in celebration of this historic occasion and in appreciation of the distinguished institutional relationship between the two organizations in supporting sustainable development and enhancing development impact in partner countries.

A delegation from the Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa (BADEA), led by H.E. Mr. Abdullah Al Musaibeeh, President of the Bank, participated in a number of high-level meetings and engagements in Vienna as part of the OPEC Fund Development Forum 2026.

In this context, H.E. Mr. Abdullah Al Musaibeeh, President of BADEA, signed a financing agreement with H.E. Mr. Augustine Kpehe Ngafuan, Minister of Finance and Development Planning of the Republic of Liberia, for the financing of the Salayea–Konia Road Development Project.

The project will be financed through a USD 30 million loan to support the construction of a 50-kilometre section of the Salayea–Konia Road, which forms part of the 274-kilometre Gbarnga–Konia–Mendikorma Corridor.

The project is expected to enhance regional connectivity, improve access to markets and essential services, facilitate trade and mobility, and contribute to economic and social development in the project areas.

The agreement reflects BADEA’s continued commitment to supporting Liberia’s development priorities and fostering sustainable economic growth through investment in high-impact infrastructure projects.

A delegation from the Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa (BADEA), led by H.E. Mr. Abdullah Al Musaibeeh, President of the Bank, participated in a series of high-level meetings and engagements in Vienna on the sidelines of the 2026 OPEC Fund Development Forum.

As part of these engagements, H.E. Mr. Abdullah Al Musaibeeh met with H.E. Mr. Anatole Collinet Makosso, Prime Minister and Head of Government of the Republic of the Congo, in the presence of H.E. Mr. Jean-Jacques Bouya, Deputy Prime Minister in charge of Coordination, Development Infrastructure and Territorial Planning; H.E. Mr. Steve Simplice Onanga, Minister of Hydrocarbons; and H.E. Mr. Denis-Christel Sassou N’Guesso, Minister of International Cooperation and the Promotion of Public-Private Partnerships.

The meeting reviewed the outcomes of the President of BADEA’s recent visit to the Republic of the Congo and reaffirmed the strong partnership between BADEA and the Congolese Government. Discussions also highlighted progress made on a number of joint initiatives, including the Corniche Road Project, which was recently approved for financing and is expected to enhance urban mobility and strengthen transport infrastructure.

The Congolese side further presented a number of priority projects for which the Government is seeking financing through the institutions of the Arab Coordination Group. Key projects include the Congo Hydropower Corridor Project, the Ammonia and Urea Industrial Complex Project in Pointe-Noire, as well as several other strategic development initiatives.

For his part, H.E. Mr. Abdullah Al Musaibeeh reaffirmed BADEA’s commitment to supporting these important development projects and to working closely with the institutions of the Arab Coordination Group and the African Development Bank to assess these initiatives and explore appropriate avenues for financing and implementation.

Both sides underscored the importance of continued coordination and cooperation to accelerate the implementation of strategic projects and advance sustainable economic development in the Republic of the Congo.

As part of these engagements, H.E. Mr. Abdullah Al Musaibeeh, President of BADEA, met with Mr. Thierno-Habib Hann, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Shelter Afrique Development Bank (ShafDB), to discuss prospects for strengthening institutional cooperation and further developing the partnership between the two institutions.

During the meeting, the parties reviewed the capital increase process supported by BADEA. Mr. Hann provided an update on the progress achieved in implementing the capital increase and its impact on enhancing the Bank’s capacity to expand its development activities across Africa.

The two sides also discussed ways to build on this cooperation and strengthen the partnership between their institutions, including exploring new financing opportunities and areas for joint collaboration in sectors of mutual interest.

Both parties underscored the importance of continued coordination and joint efforts to support initiatives that contribute to the development of the housing and urban infrastructure sectors, promote sustainable development, and improve quality of life across African countries.

A Delegation from the Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa (BADEA), led by H.E. Mr. Abdullah Al Musaibeeh, President of the Bank, participated in a series of high-level meetings and engagements in Vienna as part of the 2026 OPEC Fund Development Forum.

As part of these engagements, H.E. Mr. Abdullah Al Musaibeeh and H.E. Mr. Iván Bacale Ebé Molina, Minister of Finance, Planning and Economic Development of the Republic of Equatorial Guinea, held a meeting to discuss ways of strengthening development cooperation and supporting the country’s strategic priorities.

The meeting provided an opportunity to review the existing cooperation between the two sides and BADEA’s project portfolio in the country, including its support for the new administrative capital project, Ciudad de la Paz. Discussions also explored future cooperation opportunities in the areas of social housing, urban roads, water and waste management, social and public infrastructure, and the development of agro-industrial complexes.

The two sides further discussed opportunities to mobilize financing from institutions of the Arab Coordination Group to support the implementation of strategic projects in Ciudad de la Paz, contributing to sustainable development and the achievement of national development objectives.

H.E. Mr. Abdullah Al Musaibeeh reaffirmed BADEA’s commitment to continuing its support for Equatorial Guinea’s development priorities and to working closely with the Government and development partners to implement projects with sustainable development impact that promote economic growth and improve quality of life.

On the sidelines of meetings with development partners, H.E. Mr. Abdullah Al Musaibeeh met with Mrs. Laura Frigenti, Chief Executive Officer of the Global Partnership for Education (GPE), where discussions focused on the SMARTED Initiative, which is being implemented through a partnership between the Global Partnership for Education and members of the Arab Coordination Group.

Both sides expressed satisfaction with the progress achieved during the first phase of the initiative and discussed the next steps related to its second phase. H.E. Mr. Abdullah Al Musaibeeh reaffirmed BADEA’s readiness to participate in the second phase of the initiative, highlighting the Bank’s commitment to considering projects submitted by eligible beneficiary countries in line with the programme’s objectives.

The meeting also underscored the importance of continued cooperation among development institutions and relevant partners to support education and strengthen human capital development across the African continent.

A delegation from the Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa (BADEA), led by H.E. Mr. Abdullah Al Musaibeeh, President of the Bank, participated in a series of high-level meetings and engagements in Vienna as part of the 2026 OPEC Fund Development Forum.

As part of these engagements, H.E. Mr. Abdullah Al Musaibeeh, President of BADEA, met with H.E. Mrs. Selma Haddadi, Deputy Chairperson of the African Union Commission, to discuss ways of strengthening cooperation and advancing the strategic partnership between BADEA and the African Union.

The meeting reviewed the existing areas of cooperation between the two institutions and explored opportunities to further develop their institutional partnership in support of Africa’s development and integration priorities.

The two sides also discussed ongoing preparations for a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between BADEA and the African Union, which is expected to be signed in the near future. The MoU will provide a framework for enhanced cooperation, stronger coordination, and expanded areas of collaboration between the two institutions.

Discussions further covered a number of initiatives and operations that BADEA could support in alignment with the African Union’s efforts to advance the Sustainable Development Goals and promote economic and social integration across the continent.

Both parties underscored the importance of continued coordination and joint action to maximize the impact of development programmes and initiatives and to support sustainable development efforts across African countries.

As part of these engagements, H.E. Mr. Abdullah Al Musaibeeh, President of BADEA, met with Mrs. Deemah Al Yahya, Secretary-General of the Digital Cooperation Organization (DCO), to discuss ways of strengthening cooperation and exploring opportunities to develop initiatives and projects that support digital transformation and sustainable development across African countries.

The two sides emphasized the importance of building on the complementary strengths of their institutions to develop impactful interventions that foster innovation, advance digital transformation, and contribute to the achievement of development goals.

The meeting also resulted in an agreement to identify a pioneering country for the launch of a joint initiative that would serve as a model for cooperation between BADEA and the DCO, while demonstrating the potential of digital technologies to support economic and social development.

In this context, both parties agreed to task their technical teams with continuing joint work on the development of the proposed initiative, including the design of its components and implementation mechanisms, in preparation for its launch in the coming period.

Mr. Abdullah Al Musaibeeh, President of BADEA, met with several Chief Executive Officers from the NSIA Banking Group, namely Mr. Mamadou Oury Guirassy, Chief Executive Officer of NSIA Bank Guinea; Ms. Sokhna Maimouna Diop, Chief Executive Officer of NSIA Bank Senegal; and Mr. Anicet Patrick Okouma, Chief Executive Officer of NSIA Bank Benin.

The discussions focused on ways to strengthen cooperation between BADEA and the NSIA Banking Group and to explore new partnership opportunities that would support economic development and enhance financial inclusion across African countries.

The meeting also explored opportunities for collaboration in support of the private sector, leveraging the expertise and capabilities of both parties to expand financing for enterprises and businesses, thereby fostering economic growth and contributing to job creation.

Both sides agreed to continue the dialogue through specialized technical meetings to further examine potential areas of cooperation, particularly those related to private sector development and the promotion of investment across the African continent.

Discussions focused on enhancing the participation of the private sector in ESCWA member states to benefit from the investment and development opportunities available in African countries supported through BADEA’s operations and programmes, thereby expanding prospects for economic and investment cooperation between the two sides.

The meeting also explored opportunities for collaboration on initiatives aimed at promoting regional integration, supporting trade, investment, and knowledge exchange between Arab and African countries.

Both parties underscored the importance of building on the complementary roles of their institutions and exploring practical avenues for cooperation that support sustainable development and strengthen economic ties between the Arab and African regions.
