The Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa (BADEA) participated in the 2026 African Water Forum, held in N’Djamena, Chad, on 15–16 July 2026. The Bank was represented at the event by Eng. Hatem Aljabri, Head of the Agriculture Value Chains and Water Division.
The Forum brought together African leaders, as well as representatives of governments, the private sector, and financing and development institutions.
The Forum serves as an important African platform for advancing dialogue on policies, programmes, and plans in the water sector. It also provides an opportunity to discuss ways of addressing common challenges, exchange knowledge and expertise, and explore innovative partnerships and cooperation opportunities that contribute to mobilizing financial resources and investing them in support of the Sustainable Development Goals and inclusive development across African countries.
BADEA’s participation provided an opportunity to strengthen engagement with African countries, development partners, and international financial institutions, while showcasing the Bank’s role and ongoing efforts in supporting sustainable economic and social development in Africa through the financing of water-sector projects and programmes.

A delegation from the Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa (BADEA), led by H.E. Mr. Abdullah Al Musaibeeh, President of the Bank, participated in a number of high-level meetings and engagements in Vienna as part of the OPEC Fund Development Forum 2026.
In this context, H.E. Mr. Abdullah Al Musaibeeh, President of BADEA, signed a financing agreement with H.E. Mr. Augustine Kpehe Ngafuan, Minister of Finance and Development Planning of the Republic of Liberia, for the financing of the Salayea–Konia Road Development Project.
The project will be financed through a USD 30 million loan to support the construction of a 50-kilometre section of the Salayea–Konia Road, which forms part of the 274-kilometre Gbarnga–Konia–Mendikorma Corridor.
The project is expected to enhance regional connectivity, improve access to markets and essential services, facilitate trade and mobility, and contribute to economic and social development in the project areas.
The agreement reflects BADEA’s continued commitment to supporting Liberia’s development priorities and fostering sustainable economic growth through investment in high-impact infrastructure projects.

As part of these engagements, H.E. Mr. Abdullah Al Musaibeeh met with H.E. Mr. Anatole Collinet Makosso, Prime Minister and Head of Government of the Republic of the Congo, in the presence of H.E. Mr. Jean-Jacques Bouya, Deputy Prime Minister in charge of Coordination, Development Infrastructure and Territorial Planning; H.E. Mr. Steve Simplice Onanga, Minister of Hydrocarbons; and H.E. Mr. Denis-Christel Sassou N’Guesso, Minister of International Cooperation and the Promotion of Public-Private Partnerships.
The meeting reviewed the outcomes of the President of BADEA’s recent visit to the Republic of the Congo and reaffirmed the strong partnership between BADEA and the Congolese Government. Discussions also highlighted progress made on a number of joint initiatives, including the Corniche Road Project, which was recently approved for financing and is expected to enhance urban mobility and strengthen transport infrastructure.
The Congolese side further presented a number of priority projects for which the Government is seeking financing through the institutions of the Arab Coordination Group. Key projects include the Congo Hydropower Corridor Project, the Ammonia and Urea Industrial Complex Project in Pointe-Noire, as well as several other strategic development initiatives.
For his part, H.E. Mr. Abdullah Al Musaibeeh reaffirmed BADEA’s commitment to supporting these important development projects and to working closely with the institutions of the Arab Coordination Group and the African Development Bank to assess these initiatives and explore appropriate avenues for financing and implementation.
Both sides underscored the importance of continued coordination and cooperation to accelerate the implementation of strategic projects and advance sustainable economic development in the Republic of the Congo.

As part of these engagements, H.E. Mr. Abdullah Al Musaibeeh and H.E. Mr. Iván Bacale Ebé Molina, Minister of Finance, Planning and Economic Development of the Republic of Equatorial Guinea, held a meeting to discuss ways of strengthening development cooperation and supporting the country’s strategic priorities.
The meeting provided an opportunity to review the existing cooperation between the two sides and BADEA’s project portfolio in the country, including its support for the new administrative capital project, Ciudad de la Paz. Discussions also explored future cooperation opportunities in the areas of social housing, urban roads, water and waste management, social and public infrastructure, and the development of agro-industrial complexes.
