Twenty three pilot whales have been discovered on the shoreline in Sanday today (Sunday 10th August). The mammals are all dead and appear to have been on Roo beach, just along from Whitemill bay, for several days. Thanks to David Walker in Sanday for the image. #Orkney

Vodaphone customers appear to be worst affected by the damage to the subsea communications cable near Orkney. We have spoken to several angry @VodafoneUK users who fear they may be offline for more than a week. We’ve tried to contact the company but received no acknowledgment.

A man's body has been recovered from Kirkwall harbour. Police Scotland officers discovered the man's body in the water at 5.40am this morning.
Kirkwall RNLI lifeboat crew was called to assist officers and HM Coastguard teams. Police enquiries are continuing. #Orkney
