I welcome govt’s decision to suspend all school education trips pending comprehensive investigations into the tragic accident that claimed the lives of pupils and teachers of King David Junior School, Ndejje.

This is a necessary first step. But it cannot end there.

I earlier called upon govt to put in place stringent rules to protect our children. Specifically, I proposed that:
1. All school trips must be approved by the Ministry of Education and Sports.
2. All vehicles carrying children must undergo strict mechanical and roadworthiness inspections.
3. All drivers transporting children must undergo proper fitness and background checks.

I would like to further reiterate that these measures should not be limited to educational trips alone. They must also cover sports activities, including professional sports clubs.

Some clubs, especially in the Uganda Premier League, own and use vehicles that are not roadworthy. This puts our players — who are also our children — at great risk.

I therefore call upon the relevant government agencies and ministries to put in place stricter measures to approve both drivers and vehicles that transport players ahead of the upcoming local football season.

Once again, I send my love, thoughts, and prayers to the families, the school, and all loved ones of the pupils and teachers who perished.

I am deeply saddened by the tragic accident in Kapchorwa that claimed the lives of innocent pupils. 💔

To the parents, the school, the teachers, and the friends of the deceased: please accept my heartfelt condolences. My thoughts and prayers are with you during this unimaginable time.

As a country, we must do more to protect our children. This pain is too much to bear.

I therefore call for stricter measures:
1. All school trips should be formally approved by the Ministry of Education and Sports.
2. Stringent vehicle inspections and roadworthiness checks must be mandatory for all vehicles transporting children.
3. Driver fitness and background checks should be enforced for anyone driving children.
4. Police escort vehicles should be considered for school trips involving long distances.

Our country loses nothing by putting in place strict measures to secure the lives of our children. What we lose is when we fail to act.

Once again, I send my love, thoughts and prayers to the families, the school, and all loved ones of the pupils who perished.
May the little souls rest in eternal peace.

I take this opportunity to congratulate @mkainerugaba on the newly announced Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) Central Committee appointments.

I also extend my congratulations to the incoming team and commend the outgoing colleagues for a job well done. As our Chairman, Gen. MK, noted, the outgoing team “achieved what we set out for.”

To the new Central Committee: I urge you to maintain focus on service delivery and grassroots mobilisation, in alignment with the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM).

Our Chairman has outlined an ambitious economic vision tied to the movement’s political agenda — with PLU tasked to help achieve a $500 billion GDP target by 2031. Indeed, our role is to work hand in hand with H.E. President Yoweri Museveni and the NRM to realize this goal. You, the new Central Committee, will be at the forefront.

Congratulations once again, and I wish you success in this national assignment. 🇺🇬
