We are a registered co-operative set up in 2012. Our mission is to design & install renewable energy systems for the home, business, and the community.
Hello, welcome to the new X account for Basingstoke Energy Services Cooperative.
Our original account was deleted for some reason.
Please follow us for updates from us and general renewable posts.
Thank you from the https://t.co/c3zQoO1vaZ team.
@CSPopoff@duncancampbell This is the price paid for a "shovel ready" site ie not including any hardware. Basically it's the price AWS paid for an empty field but with the necessary permissions and connections to build a 1.2GW solar farm plus storage.
@CoopParty@Ed_Miliband We've been designing and installing renewable energy systems for the last 12 years and we are a Co-op. We are going to need a huge expansion in community energy.
We've been designing and building community owned energy systems for the last 12 years, under some pretty difficult regulatory polices. We hope the next government will focus on renewables, and focus on community ownership of renewables.

Want to find out how our candidates are going to tackle climate change (or not)? Well come along to B'stoke very own hustings. Details here. https://t.co/F8cicttkOa
@McHeath@KerryMP@LukeMLabour If @LukeMLabour becomes our MP we will certainly be "holding his feet to the fire" on that promise and a few others. The same goes for whomever is elected here! Including @MariaMillerUK @CllrMHS
Community ownership of energy assets is going to be a crucial element in delivering a just transition to a zero carbon economy. Hopefully @KerryMP and @LukeMLabour will deliver on it when in power. I've spoken to both. They say they will.

I often hear people say that without subsidies nobody would invest in renewable energy.
Not quite right. Take solar in sunny Britain: Since 2020 (first year with no subsidies for residential solar) the number of annual installations has increased >5x.
Why is this? Because solar PV makes economic sense now even in cloudy Britain and without any subsidies being paid.

What will undermine UK agriculture is unmitigated climate change. Golf courses cover 100 times more land than solar farms. Most solar farms can be used for agriculture. Solar farms improve biodiversity.
I still sometimes hear the statistic that 97% of scientists agree on the causes of curent climate change - but that research was published in 2013!
A more recent analysis showed the consensus within the peer-reviewed literature to be over 99%, and perhaps as high as 99.9%
@ProfBillMcGuire The current guaranteed price for power generated from Hinckley Point is £128/MWh. That's about twice the cost of solar or onshore wind. Nuclear is a very expensive option.
Staying below 2 degrees is not a matter of science; it is a political choice. If we choose to take action, then staying under 2 degrees is possible. We know how we can abate climate change; our politicians are just choosing not to do it. That has to change.
